Nope, you get what you get. But I am dubious about that anyway as most 'tree' alterations only alter the gullet at the pommel and then you don't have an even 'spine'. Just my thoughts though.
I think that's only the case if they are over-stuffed, I don't see a problem with the sweat marks left after use. And I disagree about them being made for rider's bum - they are bloody uncomfortable to hack in! But always felt happy going cross country in them, maybe my forward lower leg and saddle suit each other? I used to ride in a Cliff Barnsby Whittaker saddle, close contact type, was a lovely saddle, but just didn't feel secure enough in it to tackle badders, so bought my only ever new saddle that spring (and promptly didn't get there
Does anyone have an opinion on Butet saddles ? Looking at getting a dressage saddle and have heard more positive things about Butet than I have about Devoucoux.

I'm a bit late to this post, but I've got a Butet dressage saddle and my two seem to go really well in it. It's not as close contact as the older version that I had, nor their jumping saddles IMHO.It's certainly not as heavy and lumpy as a lot of dressage saddles that I've had the displeasure of riding in.
Maybe get Sederholm Selected to bring you some out to try on your horse and see what you think then?
I've got a Butet Jumping saddle which I have had for about 5 years. I ride between 5 and 8 horses on average a day, and it fits most of them, with perhaps a sheepskin on some. It has worn really well. I also had a Deavocoux which I sold as I didn't like the way it put me. I have a prestige dressage saddle, and its okay, but once I make some money I'll buy a Butet Dressage too.
Thanks nicky, I actually spoke to sederholm yesterday and they are at olympia so will pop down there and have a chat with them - its good to here that you get on with them.
Saddle chat makes such interesting reading but it can leave you so confused, I met quite a good dressage rider yesterday, (made me feel like eventing scum for asking about Butet and Dev ! ) but she highly recommended the Albions & Kieffers - I have a K2 so I know albion fit but when I first got him he came with a kieffer and it was an awful fit, since tried some other kieffers and they just dont suit my horse - not many other makes do though and thats why I was going down the made to measure route.
Sederholm will have other makes of saddle too (second-hand) which you can try if you need to make a comparison.
I used to have an Ideal Jessica (which even my "proper dressage" friend approved of!), but I really am smitten by my Butet now. I think the main selling point to me was the lightness of them; it took a while to get used to my close contact xc saddle (I had a massive Ebay selling frenzy to be able to buy that - secondhand - before anyone gets the idea that I'm made of money!) but I love it now. As I said before, the dressage isn't as close contact as the others in their range, but it suits me and my horses (or it seems to, they certainly don't wince when I tack them up and then bounce around doing sitting trot
Kieffers have large points, so there are not many "modern" type sports horses they will fit well.... Albions have recently changed their tree design to accomodate larger shoulders and have made their points smaller. I would try riding in a "true" CC before commiting to a butet as they will be very different to a K2!!!
I have to say I LOVE the Butet dressage saddle. I rode in one for several years and the only 'criticism' I will say is that because they are soo close contact and you really can feel everything, they are not the best on a really big moving horse as it doesn't have big knee rolls. But IMO it is possibly the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden in!
In ref to an earlier reply about how bad the stuuben saddles are, what I will say is that you are probably thinking of the OLD stuuben saddles that EVERYONE seems to have. Stuuben have recently revamped their saddles lines and I got to see them the other day and they are GORGEOUS!!!! Definately good enough to rival the likes of Butet and Devocoux now!!! (Although give me a Butet any day)
Nicky - NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would have one cause I will land on my face on a daily basis if I wasnt in my K2 ! Im sure your nose is lovely !
Eventersrus & eventrider23 - Thank you for your comments.
I have seen one of the new stubben jump saddles and it looked lovely ! - will see if they have a new dressage range.
Eventersrus - they are some amazing pics in your sig !
I have both dressage and x country, absolutely love them. They fit both my tb and arab and both go very well (in fact they are the only saddles that my arab will walk out in, he will not go in a flocked saddle). Obviously they won't fit everything, but then what make of saddle really does?
The dressage is the more comfortable of the two, but doesn't have large knee roles so won't hold you in place like the albion or keiffers (as i almost found to my cost this morning when the said tb decided to launch itself across the school!)
There are different trees and panel thicknesses with them and I have found that sederholm are really helpful, you just need to ask them the specific questions you want answering.
Great thing about Sederholm as well is they are so quick about helping out with repairs, etc. I remember we had a new close contact XC saddle come in from them and after riding in it for a bit we decided that it needed thigh rolls added as there was not enough security when jumping advanced or on naughty babies. We rang them and they collected it and instead of altering the saddle just sold it on and made a BRAND NEW one to the exact specs!! Talk about service!!
