Hi guys. Am seeking advice on the best treatment for buttercup burn. Can anyone recommend anything please? It's not too severe at the moment but want to prevent it getting worse. Any advice appreciated, thank you.
 
As it is in a sense a burn i would treat with after sunburn moisturiser and let nature take its course. Can you use a sickle and cut the offending buttercups down so they dont touch the horses faces when grazing
 
Hi Striker. Thanks for your reply. I would love to treat the field and be buttercup free but I'm on a livery so they aren't my fields. A couple of horses on our yard have developed it lately all grazing together. Fortunately it hasn't developed into sores yet.
 
But you use the field so,you can get a sickle from a hardware shop,not expensive and spend 10mins cutting the most of them down surely, its for your horses benefit. I do it all the time because i dont own a ride on lawnmower, or you could hirse a strimmer for the day.
 
Make sure you check right up high inside the mouth as they are not always visible and I had one who had really deep mouth ulcers which weren't at all obvious. I had the vet to my horse and was given an iodine solution for the sores inside her mouth.

I found zinc and castor oil cream (used for babies) put on the burn when she came into her stable in the morning (out at night, in during the day) worked really well
