Gorgeous George

I have recently been schooling George in a pelham as a bit of an experiment and he has been a total joy to ride
and instead of me worrying about what his head is doing I have been concentrating on working him from behind with my leg and seat. I really struggle to do this when he is in a snaffle and he is all stiff in front and I wrongly end up concentrating on his front end instead of the engine - mostly as a result of my mediocre riding but there you go!
The thing is I don't think he needs a bit as strong as full pelham and I wondered if anyone had used a butterfly pelham like this:

Firstly what did you think of it and secondly is it meant to be used with 2 reins like a pelham or just one?
Thanks
