So yesterday I travelled to Essex and back to view a horse that didnt event...no person or horse of that name/ description had ever existed at the yard! Unsuprisingly I have been unable to contact the so called seller!!! What is wrong with some people?

Where do people look for adverts for horses for sale? Any good websites I am missing? I have done the usual tack shop notices, no luck there so mostly looking online now. I am in East Anglia (herts) so the closer the better! Any tips on horse hunting gratefully received as I have been looking 5 months now and wasted ££££££ in travelling!!!
 
I know...I just dont understand- what benefit is that to anyone!? It does make me worry though as I gave out my contact info and well it could be anyone...luckily it was a big yard with lots of people about otherwise I would have started to really worry!! Hopefully the perfect horse isnt far away as after yesterday (on top of the months of wasted journeys) it just makes me want to give up looking :-(
 
a horrible thought just struck me though. If a "seller" gets your address, ie if you are going to keep your horses at home etc. They would know when you were out. However, I think it rare that people would give their address to a seller so unlikely to happen. Probably worth bearing in mind though. It amazes me someone would do this though - how did you find the horses had they actually advertised on a website?

I currently have two for sale who truly do exist, but can't advertise on here but neither are backed anyway.
 
I have travelled about an hour away to see a horse that sold when I was 5 minutes away, seller hadn't mentioned someone else was viewing if they had I would have waited until they'd gone to save me a wasted trip.
 
I am a wizz at horse shopping, love it! Following websites are good... Horsemart, Adhorse, Coloured Contacts, Horsedeals. Also have a search on here for some dealers. As long as you do your homework on dealers and you go with your eyes open, you could be in luck! What are you looking for exactly?
 
What are you looking for? Are you looking for a horse with event potential or experience? If its potential but green I would recommend seeing if Georgia Bale is selliing any of her youngsters. I wanted experienced etc etc but funds made me rethink due to losing a lot of money on previous horse. I bought a well put together green baby who has been started properly and never known anything awful. My boy is coming on leaps and bounds and really has surpassed my expectations. We are in Surrey and georgia is near us.
 
Yes the horse was advertised online so I have contacted the site they were advertising on. Think I am even more cross this morning than i was last night (is that possible!?!). I could have spent that time and money looking at an actual horse elsewhere. As a young woman travelling alone to look at horses it has made me very warey.

I am looking for something around 16hh+ must be safe to hack alone and in company with view to compete mainly in dressage but also just for general fun, age 7-12 preferably. I have a decent budget - its not like I am going to view five hundred quid horses with dodgy dealers so I wasnt really expecting it yesterday!!!
 
That quite simply begs belief. When we are selling the small number of Irish horses we have to produce I always offer multiple videos and photos before a potential purchaser travels and it might be worth asking for these from vendors to prevent any future wasted trips.

What are you looking for.........I have a nice 16.1hh 5yr old very good price!!
 
Similar thing happened to me TWICE!! Set off to view a horse about an hour away. Drove there phoned the owner and she said her car had broken down. Fair enough these things happen. Rearranged for the following morning after many apologies from her and he never turned up!! I was fuming. Then the next week horse was advertised at a lower price. No idea what the hell was going on but I was livid.

Good luck with your search. The perfect horse is out there. I got my new boy through a recommendation from my vet. If I'm honest if I'd seen him advertised I wouldn't have phoned so keep an open mind
 
Have to say that I found Horse and Hound the best place to look for horses, tends to attract a much more serious type of "seller".

Yard has a 16 hand dark bay to 5 year old. He is very flashy with very good movement. Was bought to bring onto event but is not naturally bold so will take a while to get there, though he is popping over XC fences efc but will take longer. He is a real people person who enjoys attention and is sufficiently laid back that another 13 year old livery has been riding and having lessons on him. He is a very correct little horse and I know the YO isn't being silly with the money either. Has bee hacking confidently alone and in company for a long time too. What on earth is the point of that!?! Unless you gave out your home address and they then knew you would be out (to burgle? or to 'case' the property to rob later?) or if it was someone you knew and had annoyed and they just wanted to waste your time?!?

Can't understand it at all!

I was phoned 5 minutes away from a horse I was on my way to buy (cheque in my hot little hand), to say she had been sold - even though I had had long talks with the vendor by phone and email; tried the horse and said yes, I would have her. Seemed to get on like a house on fire - she even invited me to stay in the summer! Woman wouldn't take a deposit - said the horse was mine. Then she phoned me as I was nearly there :p:p
 
My friend was going to look at a horse on Saturday and when they made the appointment she told the seller that as her husband (a policeman) was on call that they might have to reschedule if he got called out. Half an hour later they got a call from the seller to say the horse had been sold - funny how it sold within 30 minutes of the phone call! Probably a dodgy sale!
 
oh all these stories are not giving me much hope...does anyone have a happy buying stories out there haha!!

No, never met this person before in my life and hadnt given out any personal info apart from name and mobile contact number.

So many people selling horses write "no timewasters" on their adds- which having sold horses I totally understand but as a buyer I now feel I need to say the same thing!!
 
First of all, glad you are home safe and unharmed.

I'm having seller headaches so can more than sympathise..often hear of people not turning up to view, but never this. Feel free to accidentally post their details!!!

I never went to view any (was only browsing) but i noticed a couple of years ago that one of the free sites had some very dodgy ads on, with photos of horses that were on other sites and very obviously photo-shopped. The contact names seemed odd in some cases as well. Unfortunately there was no facility for reporting the ads. I made sure never to respond to anything on there.
We all know that you have to go to look at horses with your eyes wide open but you do at least expect there will be a horse to look at. Please DON'T go to look at horses on your own. If you feel that you don't need a 2nd opinion on the horse, fair enough, but at least have someone with you for safety's sake.
 
:mad:Sellers nightmare too sold mine to forever home and they took her out aff sj and hacking she was brilliant but had one blip tacking up in rain and wind and decided she wasnt for them.All because she wouldnt stand still ,she was exactlywhat they asked for and I was brutally honest flaws and all.She could be possibility for you pm if interested in east anglia.
