Hi

I am in the process of trying to buy a 2 horsebox to transport my neddies around but it is not as straight forward as you might think!

Ideally I need something with a 2 tonne payload (min) and that will accomodate my 17.2 with a high head carriage! It ideally needs to be rear facing (fat ned doesn't travel well any other way) BUT I don't want a large 7.5 tonne box as I will have to drive it down some very hairy country lanes.

BTW I am (unfortunately) old enough to drive a 7.5 tonne without taking additional test!

My budget is £15,000 ( but could stretch a bit further if i put off revamping the bathroom at home!)

Does such a box exist? if so, where?

Thanks
M

Having been looking ourselves (although for a much smaller budget) for a few months I know how you feel. 6.5 tonners are hard to find and rear facing ones even more difficult. A 3.5 tonner will prob be too small (weight wise) if you have a horse over 17hh (unless the other horse is v small!). Having one converted for you is probably your best bet.

Some of the old 3.5 t coachbuilt renault masters have large horse dimensions - I just sold mine and it had a 7ft 9 roof height and the previous owner did travel a 17hh in it.
You wouldn't be able to travel your horse with another though as would be overweight.
'Travel two' who often advertise on Horsemart deal in these older models so may be able to advise.
Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the suggestions do far - I am fully aware there is no way I can travel both my boys in a 3.5 tonne, hence the difficulty finding a suitable alternative!!

If only the fat ned didn't throw himself on the floor when travelling forward or herringbone life woudl be soooo much easier!

I have a nice 6.5 ton with a payload of about 3.5 tons. The container is only 12 feet long from the rear of the cab to the rear of the container (it does have a luton over the cab). Very easy to drive and has been used in Central London. The horses are herringbone (can take 3).
