Hi there, our recent addition has come without a bit. The previous owner told us that she rode in a hanging cheek snaffle 5.25". Having had a look around most bits are 5" or 5.5" so just wondering if anyone has got a good source of bits? Seeing as we're not sure exactly what she likes I'm not keen to spend a fortune.... Thanks

The majority of the cheaper bits have sizes that go up in ½” increments as you have said i.e. 5", 5½”, 6" etc. The more expensive bits tend to go up in ¼” increments. If you are on a limited budget then you may need to look on ebay etc where you can buy the more expensive bits used & at a cheaper price. :)

Thanks Toby - yes, have found that out :( However, have now found a very helpful lady who sells new and secondhand bits and she tells me that some measure up big and others small so depending on how they measure you can get a 5" or 5.5" that fits a 5.25" requirement. So, fingers crossed!

Thanks Daisy - I did have a look but was getting frustrated not being able to search by size. The place I did find also gives advice, HF Equestrian Bit Bank, so I'll see how that goes.
