Hi Im looking for a new horse and was wondering whether YOU, the buyer are expected to pay for a vetting or whether the SELLER will pay to prove they are selling a healthy horse?

I would be wary of buying a horse that the sellers own vet has vetted.there are alot of dodgy dealers out there offering their horses for sale with supposed full 5 stage vetting certificates.TBH a vetting certificate is really only pointing towards the horse being examined on a particular day anyway and that could easily change a day later.I always have had horses vetted by an independant vet.

Buyer normally pays but I once said I would pay asking price if the seller got the horse vetted and he passed, they did, he passed I paid full price

thanks for all your advice... would anyone recommend also getting farrier, back specialist and dentist to have a look too or will the 5 stage vetting cover this properly

thanks x

Generally no - a full 5 stage vetting would sufice.

However, I guess it depends on the type of horse you are buying & what you want it for.

I would think that the feet, back & teeth would be covered by a 5 stage vetting - but I stand to be corrected if anyone knows differently!

You as the buyer pays - it's up to you to ensure you are buying a healthy horse, not for the seller to prove they are selling a healthy horse. Prices are around £250 give or take.
