If you was going to buy a horse from the field and suggest to the owner that you wanted a 2 stage vetting done and the owner said no as it takes too long she just wants s quick sale. Would you run for the hills?
 
Absolutely - you could organise a vetting in a matter of 24-48hrs, so unless they have a queue of people wanting to buy, would be very suspicious.....
 
If it was a genuine sale she would have no problems with vetting, I viewed my latest horse on a Monday vetted Weds and picked up Saturday but would have got him immediately if I could have sorted the money etc in time

Yep. Two stage takes no time at all.
 
Walk away, it takes about an hour to get a horse vetted.
You are best to buy something that you [and your instructor] can ride and try out properly, buying a horse out of a field is for the more experienced person, and not for the average owner, particularly if you don't know this person from Adam.
Before you go to look at any more, ring up [ask for a land-line number and a name and address].

Make it clear you will bring your instructor along and the horse will be five stage vetted. Ask how long they have owned it, and the history of the horse, also its age.
You need to know if it is a private sale or a dealer/business sale, to be honest I have been asked not to view a horse after asking a few questions like this!
It saves you wasting your time and risking your money.

If your mega experienced and used to doing that kind of thing and the horse is pennies I would take an pun however, personally I would be running for the hills and not be looking back!
