Ive seen a horse that sounds perfect only problem was she was on horsewalker the seller said before I got there, is that normal? Forgot to say horse has been out of work.
Needn't be a problem if horse is being fittened for sale. However, if horse needs to be exercised before someone gets on, either by horsewalker or lunge, or being ridden before the viewer gets there, then beware the horse maybe sharper than you want.
Quite honestly, you don't know what preparation the seller has done prior to your visit, unless you arrange a second viewing with very little notice. I did this last time, saw the horse and then called a day later to ask if I could pop over in 30 minutes.
it could be innocent or it could have been done to make the horse appear quieter and calmer than it actually is , go and see it again and ask them not to work it ,( then turn up early just to stop them cheating ), you could also ask for a weeks trial before you hand your money over
depends what the various reasons are? if it was a case of the owner being injured or pregnant and unable to ride, for example, I'd have no problem. if it was due to horse having various injuries i'd be wary.
it shouldn't be a problem considering they told you they had him on the walker before hand.. so at least they're honest about it
wouldn't bother me if the horse was out of work but it does depend on why it was out of work?? So a comprehensive vet check would be a must. Hope that helps. Good Luck!
We went to see a horse for p to p a few years ago, he had obviously already been ridden, his legs had been washed down and he had been washed down. I had a little ride, made my excuses and went.
I would do as others suggest. If you like him, make an appointment at short notice. Good luck.
The seller has a baby and 4 other horses so thats why she is out of work. She does have a few flatwork problems to sort out, namely cantering fast on one rein and overjumping but I think these can be sorted out.
