Hello everyone, I have some questions regarding horses from Holland. This will be my next horse, since I am switching from dressage, that I have done for 4 years now, to show jumping. All the horses that we looked at before corona were all from 8-10 years old, didn’t like any of them, they had poor conformation and weren’t something that I would like to own. Few days ago I saw an amazing 6yo mare, my trainer likes her also, but she can’t come with me to view her since she has kids and can’t leave them. Mare had her vetting done in the march of 2021., my trainer says it’s not crucial to do it again but I am skeptical since I will be going alone with my mother. She is on the younger side but I still want to have her vetted, I am thinking 5 stage vetting. Do you think it’s necessary, or should we just view the vet check from march? If you have equine clinic recommendations from Holland that do x-rays, and that you have had positive experiences with, please write them! Thank you!!

Get your own vetting from a vet of your own choice (you should always do this whereever the horse is located). You cannot rely on a vetting done for someone else ie you will have no recourse against the vet as they were not acting for you in conducting the vetting. Get the x-rays and vets report etc reviewed by your own vet in the UK also (I'm assuming you are based in the UK), particularly if you intend to insure it in the UK.

Ive imported from Holland and the breeder/trainer organised the vetting for me. Absolutely everything was videoed. I showed all videos and reports to my english vet and went ahead with the sale and I did the same thing with a horse from Spain....in both cases I was successful and very pleased. Also, there's certainly an element of 'trust your gut'.
