Ok this is a bit complicated (and the second time I have had to type it as my account longed me off before posting last time) anyways...

I have a mare on trial, I was asked by the owner to try her as she knew I wanted a pony for myself after loosing my old mare in December aged 38. The mare is 23 and I was a bit unsure of having another veteran as I now own 4 aged between 15 and 31, three are still in work but one has been retired since he was about 15 maybe younger due to various illness's. The lady knows me well and knows once I have a pony they are guarenteed a home for life which is why I think they asked me.

Anyway I agreed to have her on trial and I have fallen in love with her. She is everything I want and more. I told her when she was ready I have a cheque for her and she said "don't forget the trial is to see if we can part with her as well"....I am heart broken as I want this mare so much but in the same breath if I am going to be told I can't have her as they have changed their mind about selling I would rather she was taken away now as its going to kill me if they leave it any longer.

I know its up to the seller but why put a pony on trial if you aren't sure about selling.....

I am heart broken and want to know what to do if she decides not to sell after all, I don't want to fall out with her so how do I tell her to pick the pony up asap if the worse happens?

I think they have been rather unfair to you and the horse,if they wanted you to have her and put her with you on trial they should honour it and let you buy.I would hope that the price was agreed before the trial and that if you go over with the money and maybe a bottle of wine, they should take the money and be pleased that the horse has a home for life.
I feel that a 23 year old should not be moved around too much and it is not in its best interests to move again.
At her age she is of very limited monetary value and if they are going to do the best for her they should maybe realise you could be the only prospect of her being sold. This could be pointed out to them if they try to back out.
I hope you can get the outcome you want and suggest you go and see them ASAP,take cash.:D

Did you not agree a period for the trial? I think if not, you could be justified in saying you want a decision now - not fair to keep you hanging on and on. Not sure what they were thinking - either they want you to have her, or not!
