Buying a horse that has been part exchanged

Hi all, first post :D

Anyway, I have seen a lovely horse advertised from quite a well known dealer.
However, it clearly says 'px to clear' at the top of his ad.
I haven't phoned about him yet, but do you think it would be unreasonable to want to speak to the previous owner?
I'd like to know why they exchanged him, his history etc and this probably wouldn't be provided by the dealer, or if it is I'd like to be able to confirm it.
If I request the previous owner's information would I be breaking any sort of privacy ettiquette?
As you can tell, I haven't done this before! :p

You could always ask, there is no harm in that:)
The question is if the previous owner will want to speak to you, I mean there are all sorts of reasons why people part exchange horses at dealers - it might be that its previous owner found the selling process to emotionally difficult for example, and would not want any contact...
I don't think you would be breaking any sort of privacy etiquette though:)
BTW - what is it you are looking for?
 
A client part exchanged a horse with a dealer and there was nothing "wrong" or "dodgy" about the horse, it was just how things happened. I advertised the horse for sale, but soon after the dealer, who I knew from a third party, had what might have been a suitable horse for my client. We tried, liked the horse, but the owner didn't want to be stuck with more horses than he needed and I don't really have the inclination to sell, so a deal was struck.
The dealer changed the horses name but used the photo in his advert that I had used and a prospective buyer did a bit of googling and up came my advert. I was more than happy to tell the history of the horse, that I knew, and the reasons for selling and why he was at a dealers.
I was pleased that the horse had found a lovely home and could reasure the buyer that he was sound, safe and sensible.
As with all dealers go with your eyes wide open, but not all part exchange horses have something wrong with them.
 
well id love to hear from potential buyers of my pony who was px by default .....dealer agreed px on new horse but gave me opp to trial horse first for 1 wk and said hed keep my pony til then....v next day my pony gne and now wnt acknowledge contact of any kind.

I've seen vids of him and he looks lovely and not as if he has any problems, I'm just being a bit cautious :P
Martlin, I'm looking for something around 15.2-16.1 that can do a bit of everything, I may want to affiliate in a few years but I'm not sure what in and I'm not really looking for it to be the next Milton or Totilas... and this horse seems pretty good to me :D
I'm probably getting slightly ahead of myself but the prospect of a horse is just too exciting :L
 
my current boy had been px for a cobbier horse due to him being a horra to hack nothing naughty would only go so far then brought rider back home she didnt carrie stick but tried him and loved him jumped to high heven and was so well mannared will now hackk on own with a big stick and a pair off spurs to add but i couldt leve him even tho he did fail his vetting proved to be a good buy who wont be being sold again :) well not for a long time
