Hi

Viewed a 16h cloverhill line ISH mare today.

She's 8 years old. Mainly hacked and hunted however did show jump as a 4 year old. Needs schooling if going to compete etc. Was put in foal twice but both died.

She's being sold from the field however I did take her for a ride and had a nice canter and jump with her. She was easy going and just what I'm after. (Want to hack and hunt mostly).

However, she's up for just £1000. The owner says no trial as being sold from field. Being sold because he has too many horses which is why she's been off work for nearly two months.

Would you get the horse vetted as it's only £1000 and does the reason for selling the horse seem adequate?
The man selling her seemed genuine and I was able to get a good feel for the mare. She was nicely forward going but safe.
I'm not a complete novice as have had thoroughbreds and youngsters however I wouldn't say I was experienced either. I don't really have anyone I can take to see her with me either.

Thanks

Assuming she is open to the vet and is your type with no major faults, I would take her subject to vetting, but of course it is limited as she is not even half fit. I can see that someone would not want to send a horse on trial at that price, to someone who might damage her. He sounds like a dealer, ask him, and also google the phone numbers and name. He seems to have a lot of information about her, did you examine the passport for ownership?

Personally I would get this one vetted. I'd also be interested in knowing why she didn't continue a career in showjumping - were there any issues, especially if you're wanting to hunt. And maybe ask about if there were any no reasons that both foals died, obs if you not wanting to breed then it's not an issue but I'd like to know there were no underlying conditions, injuries or disease.
Sounds like it could be a nice horse in the making

He is a dealer and I've had a look at her breeders although haven't contacted them. She has a BS record with 2 points on it so has only done a small amount of SJ.
He is open to vetting.
Think it was a good sign I could just hop on her from the field and take her for a hack alone?
She seemed good as gold.
Just always wary of dealers as were ripped off by the last one losing £2000 on a horse that was supposed to be perfect.

So you sent the other one back in the last week then, over Christmas. That must have taken some organising.
