When you go out and buy a horse, do you ask the seller why there horse is for sale?

(Question not meant as in, "should you" meant as in "do you personally" ask if you get me)

Yes do ask it but don't take what they say as gospel. They aren't going to tell you their horse is a raving nutter(unless thats what they advertised it as)!!Usually try to read their body language etc when they tell me reason.
If its local I usually ask about on local horsey circuit.

I once asked twice and got two different answers, i diddnt buy the horse, thought everything else said about it was likely to be pugwash as well!

Yes - but you can't guarantee you are going to get an honest answer

. Seller is hardly going to say "such and such is for sale as he is an evil B***tard who has dumped me at every opportunity, bullies the other horses/my children/OH and I am now s***t scared to go near him" more likely to reply "I haven't got time to realise his full potential"

When buying a horse always read between the lines. How long have they owned it, always a bit suspicious if under a year. Why are they selling it, if they say they feel overhorsed it could be a bit dodgy. If it was bought for a teenager/child who no longer wished to ride, its always good to see them with the horse/pony as they could well be afraid of it. Ask lots of questions and see if they hesitate. Good luck
