Buying a horsebox- Tax & MOT's

Hi guys, if you buy a horsebox that has no tax or mot (it's 3.5 tonne so mot rather than plate) but need to transport it back from sellers home how would you go about it? I figure you'd need to tax it before moving but what about the mot? It would be a project box if i had it and know 100% it wouldnt pass mot without a bit of work so how would i get it home?? Confused!! lol
 
Prebook an MOT and drive the vehicle straight from the vendor to the MOT station (conveniently local to you).If it passes ,great,if it fails just drive it home or to a place for repair.

yes Mike is right and you dont need tax to take it to or from mot it however might be pushing your luck if its a long way away 100 miles or so!!! you will need insurance !!! dont risk it without ..... oh And the not all mot garages do the bigger class 7 tests which is what a 3.5 ton van has...
 
If someone other than the owner drives it, they may have third party insurance cover with their own insurance but do check this as sometimes third party is only for other cars and not vans.

As has been said, the only legal way to transport it back is direct to an MOT testing station where it is to be MOtd after having a pre-booked appointment or on the back of a flatbed. If it them fails its' test, you can drive it back home.

Please, if the vehicle is in a dangerous condition, do not drive it back home if it fails.
 
Thanks for your help guys, thats great. I know a mechanic that does mot's for larger vehicles and horseboxes so can get it booked in no probs if i do buy it :)
