Buying a new hat, where online...

Nowhere. Go to a SHOP and get one properly fitted. You have one head, look after it by having the correct hat that fits the shape of it.

I agree somethings just are not suitable for online purchases, a hat needs to fit. Also just think about the journey from warehouse to your home, how do you know the hat has not been dropped or had something heavy thrown on top of it.

thats a ridiculous statement, what about the journey from the warehouse to the shop!!

Equestrian clearence, just bought a hat thats 40 euro cheaper than my local tack shop!
Even though the delivery is being a bit awkward but i tihnk thats the fault of the delivery man not them!

The delivery from the warehouse to shop would be several items in one box and more than likely on a pallet, and the description of the goods would be on the delivery note. How would the post workers know what is in one small box and know to treat it with care!

My hat is being delivered by courier from equestrian clearence not by regular post and Id imagine there will be labels on it saying handle with care and it wrpped in bubble wrap or something similar. people post delicate items all the time,im sure the online tack shops are well aware of the correct packaging for a hat

I wouldn't buy online unless you know exactly which model and size you need; there can be so much variation and different hats fit very differently. :) Once you've paid for postage you might find it's not that much cheaper than buying from a shop anyway, so I'd find the nearest tackshop.

I seem to remember Charles Owen do a kids range jockey skull that comes in adult sizes, but you don't pay VAT on...? If I remember correctly, and you can find one, and it fits, that's one way to make it a bit cheaper :)

thank you snooples, very helpful , i will have a look!! :)

Of course you can try in a shop then buy online, but pay p&p on top. And if everyone did this then shop would close down and that option lost for ever.
I buy quite a bit of stuff online but not shoes/boots or a riding hat...it has to fit me :D good luck!

My two nearest tack shops either dont have my size or the make i want, arent helpful and one of them has a snooty/snotty owner, who isnt dong herself any favours so why should I!?

I've just been measured ( head oy fits Charles own so there goes my hope of getting a campion) I wanted a purple pro ii but they had to order in.....just my luck they are put of stock but good for me I googled it and I found my size in the to ii in pink for £50 cheaper online.....I was going to order it as I know my size but have been worried about it getting banged about in the post:o

Can you travel a bit further to find a tack shop that stocks what you are looking for? I used to fit hats and it is so important that they fit right. You may be a certain size but every hat fits differently.

I am sometimes astounded at how some people's hats fit, and couldn't possibly see how they would protect them in a fall.

I wouldn't buy a hat online unless you know it will fit.

I bought my husband his hat from equestrian clearance as he wanted exactly the same as his old one. They did a great price and the packaging was great too.

Don't risk it if you are going to go for a change of make or model as you need to have the hat fitted.

If you don't have a good range in the local shops then the best thing to do is to go to a show that has trade stands so you can try lots on and compare prices. I am difficult to fit and an unusual size and tried lots on at burghley as my local shops don't stock a good variety of hats.

If you are looking for a cheap hat bith champion and Charles owen do a kids hat that is cheap. Just togs do a good range of budget hats if they happen to fit you.

Being measured and being fitted are not the same thing. You need to get the hat on your head to know whether it is right.

A hat needs to be fitted to your head. A good tack shop will have a qualified hat fitter. Even if you like the fit its always good to have a second opinion imo. If you buy online then find you have made a mistake it's unlikely you'll be able to return it.
