I am moving yards a week on monday, and now have freedom as to what i wear on my head, as my last yard was a dictatorship and i was told what to and not to wear, i am thinking of buying a new hat, and was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations? was thinking of getting the funky looking ones (shiny with vents)

You were told which hat to wear!? What the hell! I'm writting a uni assessment on freedom as we speak and i'm tempted to put that in! lol

What about one of those really flash ones with the flags that had a full page add in H&H this week?

Troxel. Cannot reccomend them enough. They are SOOOOOO light and comfortable. I fell off and totalled mine a couple of months ago and not got around to replaceing it yet, so still wearing my skull cap. I HATE it with a passion. It's so hot and heavy

I also have a JTE (one of the orginal 'show jumpers' hats before everyone jumped on the band wagon) and whilst it's way nice than the skull cap, it's not a patch on the troxel.

I've recently bought a Troxel and I love it. I used to wear a normal skull cap and my head used to get so hot and sticky. The Troxel has made a big difference and it's so light!
Your old livery yard sounds pretty awful, I couldn't put up with people telling me what hat to wear! You must be pleased you've escaped.

I'd have thought there will be plenty of tack shops that sell them. I know mine will get them in for me if I ask. You're unlikely to get to see all the types though.

Have a look here http://www.troxelhelmets.com/products/category.php?catID=pEnglish for the different types. I've not seem the most traditional velvet hats in real life so don't know what they're like for ventilation (the reason you buy troxel!). I have the legacy Gold and it's lovely! I do like the look of the Reliance though - proper SJ hat
