Buying a new horse and getting transporter

Simple question really,
If I purchase a new horse and need a qualified transporter rather than do the journey myself as it's a little far... does the transporter have the cash from me and then hand over the purchase price on collection or would I have paid for the horse via bank transfer at some point on the transporters journey to the horse? Or, does the transporter wait at the destination until the owner confirms a bank transfer has taken place? (in which case the seller is perfectly able to sell the horse and waste the time money and effort of myself and the transporter?)
What happens! Help!!
Ideally the transporter I would chose to use is also a friend, but she could easily be booked and unable to help.

I have recently purchased 2 donkeys using transporters, both times did bank transfer to seller. One of the sellers emailed receipt before i actually sent monies as i was a bit worried as a first-timer at this sort of thing.
The transporter checked passport before loading, kept me updated and both arrived without incident. they were both bought sight unseen and there is nothing more thrilling (with apprehension!) than hearing the lorry coming down the lane and wondering what the hell i had done.

Good luck with your new purchase and obviously we will need the compulsory pictures.

I sent bank transfer deposit to horse seller beforehand.
This also ensures the link to their bank account is 'known' to your bank and the larger payment on day of payment should go straight through.

I paid transporter the day before by transfer and then paid seller remainder of horse payment as the transporter arrived there and he checked and confirmed passport and change of ownership form all in hand.

All worked perfectly and new boy been here 2 weeks ?

I have always paid directly for the horse before the transport takes place. But have only done so with dealers that have some sort of reputation. Not sure I would do it from someone, say, on a Facebook ad. And have never let a horse of mine be collected before funds come through.

Pay seller before horse is transported. Preferably the day before….on more than one occasion I’ve had clients sitting in my yard waiting for their payment to go through due to random checks….one waited here for 6 hours!

Banks are becoming very ‘ fraud’ conscious these days so l’d advise making sure the payment will go through before the transporter arrives otherwise you might find the transporter has to wait whilst payment is confirmed which can take anything from 5 minutes to 48 hours with some bank!!! Maybe ask your bank to check everything will be ok first before you make an online payment.

I bought mine from Ireland. Paid £1 into the account first to make sure details were correct. Then the rest, the day before transport.

The transporter checked the right horse (via passport) was loaded up and next day baby H arrived! Very exciting.

Ask for photos, if it is a long journey. I had photos of before and after the trip on the boat. Mine was a multi load to Liverpool then a little box on his own to home, so I got loading ones at Liverpool too. I tracked the ship at night, then saw the photos...

When I did it, I drove down separately and met the transporter there - made sure he loaded ok and sorted out the paperwork and ££ with the seller.
But it wasn’t a huge journey (1.5/2hrs)
