Hi

i am going to look at a horse for sale this week. If I decide to buy this horse I was planning on getting a horse transporter (like Gillies) to deliver it to me due to the long distance involved. Previously when I bought my other horses, I have always handed over the cheque or cash to the person then I transported them home myself.

What usually happens if a horse transporter is used re payment - ie direct bank transfer?.

Also would a seller typically expect a deposit?

Any feedback appreciated

I did a bank transfer which was cleared the day the transporter picked up the horse. Did not pay a deposit and paid the transporter upon arrival.

QR- I bought Min privately and used Gillie's to transport him. I paid for him fully up front, but it took seven weeks before we picked him up as we wanted him to have as little stress as possible and as he had to sail part of the journey, his previous owners hung onto him for two months until the weather was suitable (if you live in Shetland do NOT buy a horse in winter!!!) and Gillie's kept rolling his collection forward until we knew the boat could take him. They were fantastic with him. Can't recommend them highly enough.

It depends upon the transporter regarding payment!

Would really only use a transporter with a credit card facility anyway as then you have some comeback!

Look on www.findhorsetransport.com for horse transport up north-you maybe able to find an empty load up!
