We are looking for a 1st/2nd pony for our daughter. She has had an ex school pony on full loan and now for a year and we are more clued up on stable and horse management ourselves now and are looking at finally buying a 12 to 12 2 pony. We have been advised 10 -12 years is the ideal age, although obviously temperament is very important. We have seen some fabulous 15 to 17 year olds advertised, yet insurance cover seems to dramatically reduce once the pony has reached 15 years old? Our daughters loan pony is 26 so we are not ageist but worry about selling on in 3 years time when she has outgrown the pony we buy, being just 9 years old now. She loves jumping and pony club activities so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
