I am considering purchasing a used Ifor Williams HB506 trailer. We have been borrowing two different ones for the past 6 months (which is why we are now buying), so we understand the use of them, but I thought it may be worth asking if anybody has had any issues that I could keep an eye out for if I am viewing used trailers?

I am looking at 2/3 year old Mk2 trailers.

I am guessing that having a 7 year old Daughter probably means you are in your 20s so my question is - have you taken and passed the B+E driving test ?

Oh I wish I was in my 20's!! No, far from it unfortunately, I am 45. I passed my test in 1988 and towed military trailers, caravans and horse trailers on and off since then.

There don't seem to be any major issues, main one as with all trailers is to make sure it hasn't been nicked! TER should show up if it has....

And although parts are relatively dear, if you are unlucky and run a bearing or something like that it's all fixable without spending mad money.

Main thing is that you know that the horse will travel well in it.

I believe there were some recalls on the 506s when they were first produced (or so my dealer said) so double check there aren't any on the mark 2s (and if there are, obviously check to see if the work has been carried out.

One thing I would say is that when I was looking for a nearly new trailer, i couldn't believe the silly prices people wanted so I ended up paying a little bit more and bought brand new. Mine is a couple of years old now but I shopped around and paid £4400.
