I currently have a pair of 2 year old fillies who are living very happily together in a field at home. I have just seen a yearling that i really fancy (im building up a small string of brood mares) but am i asking for trouble putting a yearling in with a pair bonded pair of 2 year olds … i could of course buy another yearling but i have a husband to deal with?

Well I wouldn’t want 2 x 2yos on their own to pair bond, so I’d try and borrow a kind adult nanny for a bit, introduce them yearling to them then mix the 4. Nanny can be removed later if necessary.

ETA - but they will likely be ok just to mix but you can never quite tell.

blitznbobs - just read what you have written, do you really think HHOs would ever advise you NOT to buy a new horse :D:D:D!

I agree with ihatework, you definitely require another one whether a yearling or nanny (or both) so you can take one out without the other panicking, lessen their bond.

They have a nanny but she essentially ignores them?
