Where would you go to buy a smart rising 5 year old event horse?

I have recently fallen out with the person I usually buy from - he wouldn't take back a horse as agreed previously, and I am a bit scared straying into the world of buying without his help!

I would be looking for something that has lots of scope with a reasonable price tag, and I don't mind greeness. If anything, I'd prefer something green so I can put the groundwork in myself.

Does anyone regularly buy abroad? If so where?

Also, who do you usually take with you when looking? I have a friend who is very hot on conformation, but she likes a totally different type of horse to me: I like big rangy horses where she prefers nippy pony types. Do you think taking her would just mean we never agree, or would it be a good idea because we won't fall blindly in love with the same horse?

Thanks:)

BigBoyRocky - I think Rosamund Green have a horse advertised on Horsequest at the moment, he looks smart. Do they produce horses to sell or do they produce them to keep and then sell if they're not going to make the grade (if that makes any sense?!)?

Only_me - I am thinking about making a trip to Ireland, I am just worried it would be a bit overwhelming and I don't know who I would go with.... Same thing with going to Holland (plus the language thing!)

The language can be a barrier too if you go to someone deep in suthern cark or up in norn iron like ;)

You could probably buy direct from breeder, but depends on the type of horse; do you prefer more tb type or more ISH type, as Ireland is rather large, but for a start, you could try www.donedeal.ie (although there are some REAL rough types on there :o)

This is nice, but not sure if the type :)

Will try and another few places for you :)

A friend of mine has a lovely young potential event horse for sale but I think he is 5, rising 6 but very green due to her knee injury last year, he just had to be turned away. She is also on this forum. Cracking horse though, lovely temperament, paces and jump and very sensible price. Her website is wayacresporthorses.co.uk

Nope, i brought mine from them. They very very rarely keep a horse, and if they do, its usually because millie really gets on well with it. I worked at theirs for a while and not once did an untallented, untrainable, bad mover etc, come onto the yard, Robin really is fantastic at choosing quality horses with fantastic tempraments :) couldnt reccomend them enough!!

only_me - ISH type, something with a bit of WB in it ideally. Haha yeah you're right about the accents, I'd probably need a translator! That website is interesting, I think I would probably need to go with an agent or someone who could direct me.

bigboyrocky - that's really good to know, I may give them a ring tomorrow. I like the stamp of the one they're advertising.

Mavis007 - he is exactly the type I am looking for! Thank you! I am probably just being blonde but I can't see where she is based from the website?

Hi

My partner and I bought a lovely 4yr old that i competed in the BYEH 5yr old classes last year we got him from Steve Lamb at www.dutchsporthorses.com He was really good and showed us some very very nice horses. Our now 6yr old has turned into a stunning horse and people always comment on him where ever we take him. Caron Nicol also has very nice horses at reasonable prices just google rumer stud.

Hope this helps
