buying a youngster?

My mum and i have had a long discussion about putting our mare to foal (taking in all your ideas and our own!) and have decided, with the French laws being soo complicated, that we are going to buy a youngster (between 6months and 3yrs) instead of breeding.

This is a long term plan and if it could do what i wanted to do (Sj or ODE, higher than the level i can do with Hemir) then we would kep it if not, we would sell it and look for something else.

Can you please tell me what you look for in youngsters? I want to get everything planned out before we start looking...

Temperament, conformation, and if the possibility of selling on, bloodlines. Temperament and conformation are the most important IMO though

Temperament is top of my list. Then as KatB said - conformation and bloodlines. But temp and attitude is the biggest thing for me!
