I’m looking at buying a 3 year old, he has a passport but they are unsure of breed? Does this matter? Is this weird?
He’s got a lovely temperament and looks like he’s just what I’m after.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated

Might be a BOGOF and they don’t know, it depends who you are buying from. You need to see if it’s a replacement or original passport and ideally you look at it during first viewing. What “type” is the horse? Sports horse looking or hairy cob? If the sellers didn’t breed then original breeder will be in passport. You need to become a bit of a detective mostly to protect yourself in case you buy an animal which is being sold on in odd circumstances.

Have you met him in person or are you going from photos/the seller's word? Is there something you particularly want him to do that would be influenced by breed? Otherwise, breed is of literally no concern to me with temperament and conformation dictating the animal's worth.
Met him on Saturday and he had a lovely temperament, kind not bolshy. I’m not after something to compete etc etc he’ll be a much loved happy hacker fun horse. His confirmation looked good, walk and trot and video of him cantering.
