Been to look at a nice long-yearling but not sure it is going to make the height they are saying it will. I've fallen into this trap before and hate having to sell once I've grown attached to them because they are not making the height needed. This one is coming up for 20 months old and is standing 15.1 in front and 15.2 behind. She's being sold to make 16.2hh. She's by a 16.2 TB x out of WB 16.1, so are they just guestimating her adult height as somewhere between the parents' heights, or can a 15.1 - 15.2, 20 month old grow to 16.2? She looks pretty big to me! and is narrow and leggy still, and wearing a 6 foot rug ATM.

Sorry, know its hard to gauge without seeing her!! - but just want to know whether I should view her again or just walk away and keep on looking. My head says I should keep on looking but my heart really likes the look of her.

PS: if I should walk away, how tall should a rising 2 year old be, that is going to make 16.1 - 16.2?

Thanks

not sure how big she would make as im rubbish at this! but my full warmblood kept growing and he is 6 now and still going! he was 16.1 a year and a half ago when i brought him, and now standing at 16.3!

Does sound about right to me.
My filly is 2 in may, she's about 14hh and should make 15/15.1hh.
She's in a 5ft rug.
I was told as a foal she'd be 16hh plus, which I highly doubt she will somehow.
I was told to find out adult height, to take a tape measure and measure from the top of the hoof to half way up the knee and that should give you a good gauge.
My filly is just over 15 inches there

If it's a TBxWB cross, it might make it hard to gauge since TB's mature quickly and often WB's don't! Would think it will depend on which side the youngster takes after.

Sorry! Not much help I know. Hopefully others will be able to offer better advice

Oh, should add that my full TB filly was about 14.1hh when she turned 2 years old, and finished at exactly 15.1hh when full grown. Her sire was 16.3 and her dam 15.2, so guestimating between her parents would have been way out!!! And this filly's full-brother only made 14.3hh! Not being much help.... am I?!

Depends on how dominant the mare's parentage is really since she was the WB. What is her overall build like - is she more TB than WB?

I'd say that if you added 2 inches to the height of her behind that's most likely the height she will end up if she's taken the TB side of things.

If she's more WB looking then it could be more. I'd be tempted to guess that she'd end up about 16hh

Sorry - no help, but really difficult to guess without pics!!

my boy is 3 in may and he is a full tb, he is 16 hands now, have no idea of his estimated height, i didnt want anything that big, but hes too sweet lol

If It helps I have a 20 month month old at home. She currently stands 15.2hh at the wither and about 15.3hh behind. I expect her to make 16.2/3hh at maturity.
