Hi!

I am looking at buying an RID in the up coming months. Has any one got any experience of breeders etc that I could try? Or alternatively anyone who import from directly Ireland (although this would not be the preferred way of buying).

I am looking for something to hunt, xc and bit of sj...but I am very tall (6ft) so need something that will take up my leg and not look like a 14.2 pony when I ride!

Any help massively appreciated :)

Indigo Irish draughts .they sell ridden ones not just young stock .
Their website is out of date but you will get a contact number .
I get mine from H and H ads, the last one was on horse deals though just do RID or Irish Draught as a search.

Look on the IDHS(GB) web site. There is a for sale section and also a list of breeders. its a good place to start.
Janet at Indigo always has some nice types and her ridden youngsters are always very well started.

Take a look on Irish Draughts and Irish Sport Horses on Facebook. Do contact the ID breeders, they are very helpful and will pass on your details if they can't help. The breeders will have mainly have youngstock to sell, probably backed and lightly ridden away. Indigo have lovely substantial horses and ditto the previous comment about Bowland. I have just bought a lovely chunky 16.3 youngster from Gina Exley at Ash Tree Stud and he carries my large 6 foot frame really well. There are also the IDHS GB Face book pages for the regions which post adverts. Good luck, you won't regret buying and ID, they are fabulous all rounders.

Irish horse imports have got a lovely dapple grey full ID by hunting field rebel (I think!) in at the moment. I think I also saw a Bay ID around 17hh. Have a look on Facebook as their website doesent get updated

I will be looking for one too in a few months and will watch this thread with interest. Good luck with your search, they really are one of the best breeds I think.

We bought ours from HM sports horses, she brings them over direct from the breeder.in Ireland. I'm totally besotted with him, he's an absolute saint.

You just can't beat Irish draughts
