Buying an older horse for competition?

The one bout of laminitis would not bother me at all, and almost a bonus point that they've been open about it.
To concur with the poster above when I viewed the 15 year old I subsequently bought I spoke my daughter's coach and said I was a bit perturbed at paying 5 figures for a 15 year old pony and her response was was that in her experience things often go wrong between 10-12 and that if this pony was still happily doing BE at 15 she'd have no worries re soundness.

That’s encouraging! I’ve just seen another one advertised for 12.5k which is also 15 but it has won a lot and done a lot of PC champs etc, I must admit my eyes did baulk a bit at the price tag 😳

Little update, we tried him and loved him 💕 we are going to have a second viewing and try him round a course of SJ at an arena hire with our instructor to test the brakes, steering etc as they only had a couple of poly jumps at home, and speak to the farrier about the feet. So keeping everything crossed 🤞
