buying at the sales - cheaper in euros of £?

At the moment 1 euro is = 90p so - all other things equal - it's cheaper to buy a horse denominated in euros than £. However, if the pound gets to parity or worse then it's the other way round.

I know at the performance horse sales run by Brightwells the bidding is in sterling. Not sure about the horse sales run at cattle markets i.e. Derby and Melton, I know they always used to be in guineas and with a guinea being £1.05 you are quite right about it pushing the price up.

not good idea cos euro stronger. but at goresbridge they off some 130 euro to help getting horse back to uk! go onto the website they have. i went to the 8 day sale they had in sept and it consisted of a lot of shite. im irish but live here and it was awful to see great irish breeding mixed in with foreign breeding that not even the dutch or germans consider great in the first place , lux being one of these. again people breeding horses and knowing jack all about, just easily taken in by flashy brochures! plus their minds dont seem great either, another reason irish sport horses are so great because of their fab temperments. id go to france. selle francais are fab horses and they have a fab breeding programme over there. just look how well the french do on mostly french breds?! i have a sf by harlequin du cavel out of a premium broodmare by jalisco b and hes stunning and a great temp. i guess it depends on what you want but unfortunately u wont be getting a bargin with the euro. another thing about buying from these great breeding programmes is that confirmation wise they will all be absolutely perfect cos they wouldnt keep anything less so in that sense thats a positive. and regardless of euro or sterling a horse with perfect confirmation and movement will always sell. but you dont say what your looking for so....!!

Yes, but just to clarify in case others don't know - you don't have to go to France for Harlequin du Carel - he's based in Ireland!

oh im sorry ballyshan has the lux comment set you off lol!! or was it the flashy brochures! this forum should be from unbiased people who dont have other money making motives at heart and really shouldnt be advertising ??!! funny really!! how sensitive are you!!

No nothing to do with that but things are changing and people have to move with the times. There are plenty of people breeding traditional riding horses. We are not one of those tratitionalists.Lux was an insurance claim so had to be sold on as he got injured but is still widely used abroad and I dont think I am biased because I have one as he had the 1st,2nd and 4th placed horses at the finals of the 5yr old class at Dublin this year not to mention how he is doing as a broodmare sire but that is beyond the point.
