I've been very fortunate to have been able to keep past horses at home or at work. I'm just now entering the world of livery.

I've recently paid a deposit for a pony and have a livery space secured. The seller and I allowed approximately two weeks to make travel arrangements, with the intention of completing at the point of moving.

My livery have informed me that they can take the pony a week after the fortnight we had allowed (I'm over the moon to have been offered this placement. It's absolutely perfect for my needs and the YO is lovely!).

So, my question is- when there is a delay in moving a horse, what would be the usual arrangement between buyer and seller? Would offering livery for the ponys extra week there usually be an acceptable way forwards?

I fully intend to! I'm just checking on what would usually be seen as an acceptable offer to make, during that conversation. I've been out of the game for years. I feel rusty, old and somewhat stupid generally. Any advice appreciated

I think it would be appropriate to offer, the seller may well tell you not to worry about it but at least there isn't uncertainty hovering in the air

Had the seller delayed the departure from their yard that would be different

Congratulations on your new pony

I'd ask seller whether can keep horse the extra week and how much they'd like for the trouble. I'd hope they'd say yes, and charge under £80 depending on ponies lifestyle and their costs.

Yes, speak to them as it may be they have another pony coming and no space, or equally you may be able to offer to pay livery if the pony can stay there. But more tricky of its a diy yard, then I would say you need to find temporary accommodation for the week.

Thank you all very much. Having lost out on one livery and one pony already, I find I'm second guessing myself an awful lot. I did nothing to incur the loss of either but it has knocked me a bit! I'm pretty sure they have space (it seemed so when I visited), so I will approach as suggested. Thank you again!

I had a similar situation, but I asked the seller to hold my horse for another week as she had clipper rash. To avoid mass hysteria on my yard, I paid the holding deposit and offered a week's livery and hay costs to the seller. Seller refused but I would have been happy to pay.
