i am looking for my next jumping horse, is going to europe worth it?
what are peoples experiences with buying a young showjumping horse from europe?
where do i start, do i need an agent?
does anyone know of any good agents?
what are the best studs, or is there any dodgy studs i should miss?
is an auction worth it (thinking of verden)?
are they reasonably priced?
what country is best and does the agent sort out hotels, flights and transport?

Does your trainer not have suitable contacts to help you source the right horse?
Your question is too vague for anyone to really help. Depends on your experience and what you want to do.
 
What level of horse are you looking for. I don't see why you can't get what you want here or in Ireland, is there a reason you need a continental warmblood. There are some great crosses now for instance ISH x continental that are jumping up to a high level. Have you looked at what's for sale in the U.K. at all?
 
yes i have looked in England but most of the good quality ones are already jumping the 5/6yr old classes (up to 1.30/5) which i think is to much on horses legs before they've finished developing
i am looking for something to bring up SLOWLY to hopefully jump 1.30
 
If you are buying from Europe then it is highly likely that if they are talented they will be jumping the age classes so buying from Europe will definitley not escape that.

When I bought from Europe (almost 4 years ago now) my budget went a lot further in holland than in the uk and I got a very nice horse for not so much money.

I would not have gone shopping without my trainer though who was originally from that country and had contacts who could be trusted.
 
This guy is a showjumper who used to import warmbloods but now seems to be selling Irish instead. He's lousy at choosing photographs but he has a good eye for a horse and doesn't add the markup some others do. I bought a KWPN off him once and he was honest about the horse, with the exception that he did not tell me that he was a serious nightmare to travel, and he definitely knew.
