Buying from Ireland

I am now considering buying a backed but young connie/ish or a x direct from Ireland. I’ve previously discounted a baby but I’ve got the facilities and can afford to get someone to support long term and I am seriously struggling to find something more established that fits the bill. Any recommendations for a producer in Ireland (I’ve seen a few but prefer something already backed and ridden away) and is there anyone in country that will go and view for you - an agent?

Depends on your budget.
But why not go over and try them yourself? If they're being ridden away, you could at least have a quick sit on, and you're better able to judge personalities.
It's not expensive to go, and definitely cheaper than buying the wrong horse.

What youre looking for commands a premium as there are lots of people looking for similar.

I know of a few people who have bought off Kevin Reilly and they seem to be really nice horses.
I’ve not dealt with him myself though.
You can find him on Facebook.

I’ve seen his but they tend to be unbacked and I’d prefer something back and seen a bit of the world. I’ve seen some on Hannah Taylor’s FB that are backed etc.

I have a decent budget but what I’m looking for doesn’t even seem to be for sale. A nice smaller horse with a sane and sensible head but with nice paces - I’ve been looking for 7-10 year olds but they are super rare and/or have quirks. My mare is a connie x and I’m sold on the breed (size, capability etc) but she’s a delicate flower and often off games so light work only. The sun is shining and I’m missing riding!

It’s depends on your budget Irish horse prices are the same as uk. Lockdown really increased the Irish horse prices , Connemara are still mad money in Ireland some ish breeds have started breeding from theses connemara stallions because they get more money. If you know the right people you might be able to get one for a reasonable price.

Thank you!
I sent a link to one, it was put up a month ago but is pretty typical as to what she has. She trains 'English' as in they are there for months before being put up for sale, so worth contacting her even if she doesn't have anything advertised. Often, they go to a show.

They have not been rushed, mine was good to handle, tie, was calm and patient. The only thing I would say is that she is a very talented rider and will make anything look further on that it is, but she is very honest on the phone.

Thank you. I’ve had a look on her FB page and will message her to see if she has anything.

Agreed with this. I know her from when she was in England and she is a very good rider but she also does have nice horses.

Emma Hynes from Hollyrock horses would be worth a message. Normally has a selection of ID, Connie’s and ISH types both unbroken and ridden away. I know of 5 from them including one that is my own and all were well started with super temperaments.

I bought from a unbacked 3yo mare private from DoneDeal (shoot me now)

Seller was actually extremely genuine, owned his own livery yard and everything he said was truthful. Very pleased with her 2 years on.
