Im thinking of buying a pony from the sales to break for children. What advise do you have when getting them home/worming/feeding.

It will live out with sufficent grass on over an acre split into smaller paddocks- Im thinking of worming and then moving onto fresh land ?? Once I can get near it !!! It will have plenty of shelter and another pony to keep it company which will belong to a friend of mine.

What has been your experiance of buying from the sales, pice of before and after would be good.

No experiance of purchasing from sales i'm afraid, but I do have experiance of teaching kids to ride and the choice of horse is very important.
1) If you are purchasing something for your own kids then are you prepared to put them on something potentially quirky, unhandled and ultimately unknown then it is your risk and you know will the pony. Please be aware that you will be a much stronger rider than the kids are and problems you encounter may be less than they will.

2) If you are purchasing something to break and sell on for a good profit margin then get insurance because if the pony decides it doesn't want to be a childs pony (after being ridden by a strong adult) and something happens- you will be liable.

These are just my thoughts- If I had the time and money I would do something similar but the pony would be 14hh to 14.2hh to get the small adult market. Childrens ponies are a different kettle of fish altogether and responsible parents are not prepared to risk their kids on unknown ponies. I understand that ponies are cheap out of the sales but there is a massive risk involved.

Good Luck!!

(also don't mean to be a bossy madam- just acting as devil's advocate!)
