Has anyone here bought direct from any of the Irish sales and if so can you tell me how you found the experience, and do you think it was worth going to find the horse you wanted.
Or did you find it a total waste of time and money and feel you could have got as good a deal in the mainland Uk.
Loads of info would be great x.

I've bought direct from Goresbridge before and I thought it was fantastic. You have every opportunity to view the horses before, being ridden, loose jumped etc and can ask for them to be trotted up for you. Most of the horses were warranted but you can get a further vetting done if you ask (at a decent price too). I bought unbroken ones so can't really comment too much, I got what I paid for- nice big, sound, quiet youngsters. Of course I lived in Ireland so I wasn't really budgetting for transport.

I find (although this isn't universally true of course!) that most horses here that go through a sales ring- except the sport horse sales- are generally slightly problematic. Most horses that go through Goresbridge are fine, just there to be sold as the owners aren't too soft about them. Also, all mine were sold direct from the breeder so they were all "one careful owner" jobbies! It's certainly worth a look if you are experienced enough to know what you are looking at- remember that you can't send them back unless they are not as described. Best of luck!

yes I bought my mare from gorsbridge several years ago, I would be very, very careful they sell all horses with vets certs but they are not like our vettings. My friend also bought a mare that turned out to have a wind problem although it had a supposed clean cert. I still have my mare and have a lot of fun on her but she is probably not the soundest horse you could buy, also had problems transporting her over, wont go into that here but ended up having to collect her from the docks myself. Went to cavan to the ID breeders sale to look at foals and yes you can pick up a bargain but decided against re transporting them over so bought over here, much easier. I wouldnt do it again

Thanks for the info...I know I want an Irish horse, just wanted to know if it would be worth my while going to the sales myself.
