hi ,
has anyone ever done this and have any words of advice to keep things as straightforward as possible as we are based on same yard .
i will need the horse insured, however we use the same vet so could be a conflict of interest on vetting .

You can have the same vet do the vetting if you want and if the seller agrees - has the advantage that they can disclose vet history to you. But otherwise use an independent vet if you’re not comfortable. Treat it as you would any other purchase, get a receipt.

In this instance I wouldn’t mind the same vet I don’t think, you know there wouldn’t be any dodgy collisions between seller and vet and the vet would be there on your behalf. There may be an advantage if they know the horse too. That said, I say that because I know my vet very well and she knows me and my aspirations/what I look for in a horse and it’s her opinion I’d want on a new one.
If I didn’t particularly have a relationship with my vet I would perhaps use an independent one so there was no conflict of interest with the owner also being a client.

The same vet may only vet the horse if the vendor agrees to the full veterinary history being released to the purchaser. this is BEVA guidleines.

I purchased a horse from the owner of the yard where I keep them. We use the same vet, and he gave permission for the horse to be vetted and for history to be disclosed. In my case it caused no difficulties.
