theres a beautiful palomino pony at my yard-have spoken to her owner who is willing to sell her-shes 11 years old and have had a look at her teeth which need rasping quite badly.but have noticed her two front top teeth have worn down considerably more than the others.why would this be? also she was baught from a farmer years ago and no paperwork was exchanged(she is of unknown breeding)welsh mix looks like. so if i buy her there isnt any paperwork or passport to go with her. what do i need to do about this?

Does she crib? This may be the cause of her teeth wearing down like that. Does the tooth wear affect her ability to eat at all? If you did buy her it would be easy to get her a passport from someone like the pleasure horse society as they don't require you to know breeding.

Thought it was illegal to sell a horse/pony without a passport??
Id ask owner to apply for one and only buy when one comes threw, as the horse/pony could be stolen.... you never know...alot of places do passports without knowing the breeding etc of the horse, as regards teeth its only £35 to get them checked and rasped etc in my area id get them checked before i bought as teeth problems can lead to allsorts of bad problems even leading to a horse/pony becomming unrideable just because of teeth, the owner cant legally sell this animal without a passport, so make sure you get one before you hand over any money as your asking for probs in future, a rule i always follow when buying horses buy with your head and not your heart.. she may be a beautiful pony etc but make sure your covered for the passport and possible teeth problems 1st

thaught it might be cribbing, she has been at my yard for two years and everyone knows her well but her owner doesnt seem to think she cribs. have seen her eating and there is definately no problem!!! she looks healthy and has the right weight on her etc-just needs alot of schooling as her owners dont have time for her. with regards to the passport-i baught a pony from my mum without a passport and just applied for one(he was 13 at the time!) although he was registered with the nfpcs.

Thought it was illegal for a horse/pony not to have a pport now? Wasn't there a deadline??

I got my old pony a pport with no breed details. Does she not have a vaccination card?

Has she been in a field with very short graass/hardish ground, we had a horse with teeth like that and the vet reckoned it was cos she was grazing on a starvation paddock.. she never cribbed in her life

her owners have hardly had time to do anything with her so suspect passport wasnt applied for when it should have been! i assume if i buy i can just apply for a passport as breed unknown and get the vet to come and do the description of her for me and teeth at the same time?
