Hi All,
Just need a rant!
Im currently looking for a horse to buy and Im having a nightmare!!!!arghhhh
I personally dont think that Im asking for a miracle but it seems that I am!!
Im looking for a 16.3 plus pref gelding that will carry some weight (yes I have seen the fat riders posts!, Im not that huge), between 5 and 12, that is not silly, has 3 good paces, has no vices and is healthy, and wont cost me more than £3500.I must state that I would take on something that had "quirks" or needed some work, Im not asking for a push button machine! This is proving to be very difficult.
Firstly no one answers their phone when you call to enquire, if they do the horse is always sold. Then if you do manage to find one that is still for sale, you go see it, and it is nothing like described! I have been to see a few over the last few weeks and can still find nothing. I did find what I though was a great horse, though still overpriced for what it was, had it vetted yesterday and it failed due to a heart murmer, so the search continues.
One i previously saw I liked, said to owner I would like it vetted and she then proceeded to lose my number(apparently) and then the horse went lame (apparently), something didnt quite add up at the viewing so guess I should not have been surprised!!!!!!! And I have not heard from her since!
And why are horses so overpriced? Just cos the current owner thinks their horse has potential (based on what I have no idea) they bump up the price by an extra 2k, grrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Is anyone else having this problem????????
Thanks for letting me have my rant!

Think most of it comes down to the fact that the majority of owners aren't honest to either theirselves or potential buyers. Would save everyone a lot of blinkin' time if they were!

Hope you find something soon - i expect it will be worth the wait :)

It is worth calling the horses that are a bit more pricey and that have been advertised for a few weeks - ask if they will take an offer - a friend had her schoolmaster advertised for £6k, he was safe as houses, 8yo and definately worth every penny. She was in a rush to sell, so that when someone called three weeks after advertising, and offered her 4k she bit their hand off. A lot of sellers will give in as the market is so slow, especially heading towards winter, people will start to panic.

Totally understand where you are coming from - I have no idea what the hell planet alot of the sellers are on!
Did the dreded horse search just over a year ago for my mare. I have never met so many dishonest people in my life!!!
Would any of these suit you?
a bit young, but sounds a sensible sort, and has been and done rather than 'potential'!

from having a scoot through some adverts, anything of that sort of height can be a reasnoble price, but as soon as you want to get something with a bit of bone the price goes mad!
Perhaps it might be worth contacting breeders of ID, CB, shire x or clydie x to see if they have something suitable?

Hi All,
And why are horses so overpriced?
Well I suppose it depends on whether you are the buyer or the seller as to whether the horse is over-priced or not! What you are seeking to buy is what a lot of people are looking for, so the demand is quite high, as is evidenced by the fact that many of the horses you are interested in have already sold when you ring up. Therefore if demand is high, and there is a limited number of horses fitting that criteria, then buyers will start to price their horses higher, especially if they are not too worried about a quick sale!

However, I'm sure you will find something eventually, but may take a little longer than if you had a slightly higher budget.

It might be worth regularly checking the Pricemovers section on Horsequest, as that is where they list horses whose price has been reduced, so you might find something in your budget there.

Keep an eye on the allrounder cobs on horsequest there are some quite nice ones on there. A little older than your range but there are some.

I have seen a few adverts recently for horses I am 'aware' of where the adverts are missing big chunks of information. They are quite misleading to a buyer.

Also owners seem to think its fine to stick a big price tag on their horse even if it has regressed from when they bought it.

Just glad I'm not in the market to buy.

hey asterid, i know who you are!!! thought i would join h and h seeing as your always on it!!!!
thanks glos girl for the horses you found for me, really really sweet of you. im jusy about to phone up about the cb!

zoeshiloh- i am going to scour ads again and maybe not rule out more expensive ones to call about
tgm- yes, guess i want what most other people want, cant increase budget unfortunately, wish i could.
kaylum-will check out horse quest again
mickeymoo-lucky you!!!!!!!

thanks all for all your comments!

The whole horse selling thing is a nightmare - ive put off advertising 2 of mine as i cant be faffed with going through the roller coaster ride that it is! (they are youngsters, so not what u are looking for)

You see adverts not telling the truth etc
You see BLATENT overpricing also

BUT

The then genuine sales - with decent price tags are then insulted by being offered peanuts for them.
I know some people are desperate to get rid and everyone likes a bargain but some of the offers ive heard of recently are just silly - 3k for an eventer priced at 8k and even, after messing a friend about with her horse for 2 weeks, then saying 'i cant afford to buy but will have him on loan'????

Gahh - i give up - i think im destined to just keep all of mine!
