Hi,

Having bought all my horses from privet owners i wondered what was the most common way dealers took payment??

Card/bank trans/cheque/cash/ in kind hahaha!

Please tell me about your experiences.

Thanks

I bought mine from a dealer with my debit card :D The bank did call to check that i authorised the payment as it was pretty large!

does it scare the whatsits out of you driving around with all that cash!!! ahh id be scared a highwayman would get me lol

i was wonderng this too. Is it the norm to pay private buyers with cash? then just get a recipt??

whats a bank transfer btw :o

I usually pay cash - go to the bank, withdraw it and put in a plain envolope, and tuck into a pocket on my person, not in a bag.

you call up the bank and do it over the phone, so they directly pump the money into what ever account you like, its quite quick i think.

glad im not to only one!!! Last time i bought a horse i paid by cheque! back in the dark ages lol

yeah we paid by cheque 4 years ago lol. and left with the horse before the cheque cleared :o !

was adealer we knew so different i guess.

I paid cash, I did feel slightly anxious withdrawing that much money at different places across town and over 2 days.
I didn't much like handing it over either but at least I got my horse at the same time.

Why don't you call the dealer up and ask them what they accept? I guess card would be easiest in this day and age, but would be surprised to find a yard with a card machine (unless they also had a shop on site and could put it through that). If you have a cheque book, that's fairly straight forward to but they might not be willing to part with the horse until the funds clear. Likewise for bank transfers, which can also be done online if you've signed up for internet banking. You'll need their name, account number and sort code - same if you do it over the phone (if you're signed up for phone banking!).

Or there's good old cash, but be sure to get a receipt and not get mugged on the way over! I'm paying cash for mine on the weekend. Hate carrying large sums of money about, but there you have it.

Good luck.

I've bought four from the same dealer and always paid in cash. They were not expensive though, and I trust him completely.
