Buying second hand items

I personally like to buy items like numnahs, girths, rugs and helmets new. I've bought the occasional steel bit second hand, saddles I've bought second hand too but my rubber in hand bits must be new.

Just wondered what others buy second hand and what you'd only buy new?

I never buy second hand hats but I like a second hand rug if its a bargain.

Ditto Lolita, I'd never buy a second hand hat, but I'd buy second hand pretty much everything else (if buying used was a big saving). All my showing jackets are second hand, one bought and the other three given to me by my neighbour after her daughter died. I've bought second hand brushing boots before, I am sure there's other stuff but can't remember! My neighbour has loaned/given me enough pairs of reins/different bits in the past.

Hats, Boots (for me) and body protectors have to be new everything else I dont mind second hand

I get a lot of rugs 2nd hand but never hats... saying that though, I am looking for a beagler for this seasons shows... Im offically a groom, would never get one 2nd hand if I was on board!! Enjoy your 2nd hand stuff or 'Nearly New' as my friend calls it

riding hats new
anything where damage can be hidden (saddles, rubber bits, rugs and the like) will buy second-hand IF I know the provenance and history of the item
anything else - don't mind either second hand or new or sale/discount as long as they are suitable for my needs

Mainly stuff for me new and everything else secondhand as long as decent condition and good price.

One tack shop at home called their second hand section "previously enjoyed items"
