It has been a long time since I last had my own horse and so previously my Dad (love my amazing unhorsy Dad!) used to tow me to shows using the trailer we had when I was a teen.
Now I have my own horse again and although she is kept on a lovely yard with great hacking the school can get very boggy in the wet which is frustrating and I also have a good friend who I'd love to be able to box my mare over to to ride out with occasionally further in the forest and to the beach.
So basically I am after advice please about what you all use that is best for local trips for lessons and clinics etc. I don't want a trailer as unfortunately I passed licence a few months after the date when they changed the rules about needing a trailer test (which sounds expensive and time consuming) and after a mate had a scary accident with one jackknifing I've been put off. Also not sure my car would be up to towing.
I have seen the little all in one mini boxes which are like an Ifor W top on a transit base and similar type 'mini vans' and wonder how good these are? Our mare is a light little thoroughbred (only 15.1hh) and generally it would only be used to tranport her. What sort of approx budget would I be looking at for one of these that is used but in a reliable, safe state? Are they any good? Is it easier to source the van yourself and pay to get it converted?
I am attracted to these as I assume you can drive on a car licence, we don't need living just basic tack storage and I could park outside the house rather than having to find lorry space at the yard. Anyone got one or have any advice on pros and cons please?
