Buying unseen and using a transporter - financial security?

I bought a pony from Aberdeen, unseen by me. From another HHO-er as it happens. However I did chat with her about all aspects of what I was looking for, what he was like etc. But I sent a friend up to do both the viewing and collection for me. Said friend is bringing him on, so it all worked out neatly.

PS Dry Rot - Husband is interested in a Highland. Any tips/hints etc? Ridden geldings seem like hens teeth!

Google 'Highland For Sale', Highland Ponies, etc., Facebook has a few 'ponies for sale' pages, Highland Pony Society 'for sale' ads, Gumtree and Preloved (believe it or not), Horsequest. I'm afraid it is a matter of doing your research. Older experienced 'done it all' ponies are indeed as rare as hens' teeth as they are usually sold by word of mouth. The majority of inquiries I used to get were for those until I put a caveat up on my web site that I'm a small breeder and don't usually have anything for sale older than 5. Make sure you do your research as there are several types of Highland ponies. Mine are the lighter performance/riding type and forward going and that isn't what everyone wants.

Thanks. I have done all of that pretty much. Am convincing him that another fell might just be easier! And he's eyeing Dales as well. And yes, we have a strong native preference!

I did this via bank transfer on the day the pony was being transported. I am probably too trusting though! He was just coming from North Kessock to Aberdeenshire. I knew where she lived and thanks to FB could verify she wasn't a scammer.

However, pony was a bit of a state when he arrived - as she had not revealed his true condition!

This is a COMPLETELY amazing idea. I can see tons of flaws - like how are we sure, just because someone is on here, that they can be trusted? But it's worth exploring.

Incidentally I build databases for a living, so I could SO do this :)

Another thread to follow shortly...

hehehe I guess its better than never been seen, as a photo and videos taken last year can be totally different to now. It might just help and could take up to date photos and videos.

I was thinking id offer to pop over for a look, make sure it has 4 legs etc... Then saw you said north and though will be too far, like Inverness or somewhere! But I agree if your nearly in France it's a bit of a drive ;)

I would get the transporter to call you when they are standing in front of pony and passport, do the bank transfer, and pony can then be popped in the lorry. I know many vendors won't allow it to be loaded prior to payment, in case you ****** off with it!
