buying unseen -WDYT ?

There is a high value on true first horses though no? It is just that that is more than a lot of these very novice people are prepared to pay.. because they are thinking it is cheaper than riding lessons.

FW, you say that playing it safe is overrated. You certainly seem to have made some pretty good unseen buys.

But equally you have been often been frank on here that you are on occasion crippled by nerves and self doubt riding wise. Just seems odd to risk buying something that you haven't seen and tried first. I can understand the gung ho brave types doing it, but not anyone with confidence issues.

Well I can’t really explain it but I am not at all nervous on my baby cob who I only bought a couple of months ago unseen! Yes I did need a friend to hack her out for me the first time we did anything with her, but since then I’m hacking her by myself and jumping and schooling her too. Not big yet but she’s only 4. I knew from the description from the seller she would suit me and I knew from a friend in the area that the seller was genuine. However I also knew I might need to spend the same again paying someone else to finish her training if I couldn’t do it myself. However I am doing it myself and loving every moment. I also knew if she wasn’t what I wanted I could easily sell her for at least what I paid for her.

Confidence is a strange thing and if you get the right horse it soars. The one I am scared on, I viewed twice had three instructors watch the videos of, had one phone the dealer to discuss the horse with him and he knows the dealer and I better him. I was not missold him in any way. There’s utterly nothing wrong with that horse for nearly anyone to ride and he’s never done anything to cause me to be fearful. He’s just probably not for me.

I can’t even explain why because the cob is actually hotter than he is. I just feel safe on the cob despite her being green and young and him being a (very expensive!) schoolmaster. But the other funny thing is, that riding the baby cob, is making me feel more confident on the big one and more confident I’ll be able to ride my welsh when she comes back into work too. Why. I have no flipping idea but it’s cobs all the way for me!
