Who has done it.......

how did it turn out??

i don't want dozens of posts pointing out WHY it shouldn't be done..we all know that..

Soo.......

Pics would be useful too...

Bought a 6yr old which had jumped round two affiliated BE courses for £200 unseen. Ok, so she was cheap for a reason, but we sold her on (unseen) for £1200 2 weeks later.

Thats my kind of purchase and sale!

Ive bought unseen twice but both times on the recommendation of people who have known the horses involved. Both sold on quickly with no problems for hunting.

I would be extremely wary of doing it now, even with a recommendation, as I believe times have changed and some folks genuinely arent as trustworthy and honest as they used to be when it comes to selling.

A pony at my RS was bought unseen, he was kept at a yard about 20 mins drive away. A livery said it looked in a bit of a state. He was so nervous, wouldn't jump, awful generally. He still hates being anywhere on his own, won't go in a stable, and we have to take him for a hack if a horse box is coming up the yard! but he is also a perfect childs pony in the school, complete beginners pony that is a superb jumper This is him

I have done it and the result was great.i saw an advert in a magazine rang the owner and asked about the horse then asked if i could see some more photos of the horse.
we received the photos loved the look of the horse and then decided to send a deposit in the post until i could travel down the country to pick him up.
the horse was everything it was described

sorry dont have any pics on my computer to show you.
i did however asked every little trival question which i thought was relivent to me about the horse so i had a good background to go on before i sent my deposit.

What was wrong with it? Or had you just found a seller who was stuck in a time warp?!

Whirly twirly bucks. Super horse and the buyer recognised that, he traveled 200 miles to pick her up and has turned her around.

I haven't bought but I did sell my mare to some one unseen. I sent vids of her in all situations- handling, lunging, trotting up, hacking, flat, jumping ect and lots of pics. She also had a 5 stage vetting with full x rays. I sent a detailed report of all I could say about her.
They are very pleased with her.

i have!! twice turned out o.k, the mare i sent someone down with the money and instuctions to put her in the stable until i got home from work, she had issues but tuned out fine!
the TB was a nice hack but i got rid of him in the end.

Not quite bought, but I did agree to take on a racehorse that had broken down unseen. Just went and picked him up. Got to wait another 3 months before I can ride him so I'll let you all know how he turns out!!

I notice that most of the people posting about their successes that were bought unseen are what I would class as pretty knowledgeable types. Are there any more novicey people who bought a horse sight unseen and have had success with it?

brought a untouched 2 yr old coloured sports horse colt
via internet ,
was delivered in a trailer loose with all doors rammed shut.
came of a sweaty wreck .
i thought what have i done !!!!!!!!!
4 weeks later he was a complete angel.
my best buy

When I was a kid my mum bought a welsh second A filly unseen from wales. It was on the recommendation of a friend of ours who breeds them in holland and is phenomanally (sp!) successful with them, he said he had seen a nice couple of 2yr old fillies, so we got one and a friend had the other.

Neither my mum or our friend was what you would call novicey, but it was a bit of a disaster. Lorry turned up in the middle of the night, it was May but weather was horrific. Ramp came down and inside were two hatrack ponies that wouldn't come down the ramp.

The pony we had (lulu) was the worst, and with vet supervision we turned her round in a few weeks, although it took best part of 6 months to get her looking 'normal'.

In all honesty they were crcking little ponies, very well put together and moved fantastically. We sold her to a friend for her kid when she was 4 or 5 but sadly she was affetced with arthritis a couple of yrs after which we think was down to her malnutrition at such a young age. She has a home for life though so not all bad but she can't be ridden, she's a field ornament!

I sold unseen in 2004 - my NF mare. She was a lively and safe ride for a competent adult and I wanted her to go to a nice home where she would be valued and not to a child. Lovely lady bought her after seeing lots of pics and chewing the cud over the phone a few times - we delivered her and the lady was thrilled.

2 years on she became her (now teenage) daughters ride and everyone was still happy the last time we spoke.

It was for a nominal sum though - I needed the space quickly, this lady wanted a pony but did not have oodles of £££, she did not want a vetting and I was quite happy with that.

My first pony was bought unseen. I was 14, pony was 5 - TBx 14.2 chestnut mare. I'd been living and breathing ponies for 4 years and this cost £375. Had been broken at 4 then turned away in a field.

Experienced family friend (proper old fashioned horseman) got her for me

She was a grade A bitch! Had the nastiest drop shoulder spin I've ever met and very nearly scared me off riding for life!

But she'd hunt all day, jump for fun and turned out to be a cracking pony really, a proper flying machine

Bred me this

And then was sold on eventually and did national hunter trial championships (was placed first time out) and prince philip games finals when the kids games pony went lame.

Last I heard she's been doing RDA stuff then gone into private ownership in Halifax somewhere, and ws teaching a 13 year old kid how to jump (and she'll be late twenties now)

I have made an offer on a horse and if the owner says yes she'll be coming on Saturday. I haven't seen her, apart from a bad picture. Billy, who I got a couple of weeks ago I did see before I bought him, but I never sat on him until I got him home.

I got my daughter's pony, unseen from Germany. I only paid £400 transport/vets costs. She is 27, but an absolute gem.

My yard owner also bought our share horse, unseen, from the same yard in Germany (her sister does cast her expert eye over our purchases before advising us!). She is an 18 year old American Quarter Horse and, once again, has proved an absolute star.

Well im one of the stories your all waiting to hear...

*Yes im a numpty and yes i learned the hard way!*

I bought unseen from a website, paid too much money and she was my first ever horse.

Stupid, pathetic, naieve- yes i know!

Here she is....

Ginger1.jpg

(excuse my parents!)

and true to form she was everything i wanted- except...

she has ringbone in her front two pasterns and was diagnosed as 'never to be ridden' two months after she arrived.

I rode her twice!

Tried to take the dealers to court but they disappeared and then 11 months down the line this popped out:

SP_A0137.jpg

(she had been put in foal the vet reckons she must have been covered days before she came down to me)

Here they both are now, my yearling and her mum with me forever!

I sold my KWPN unseen to a lady who was having lessons with a fairly well known SJer. I didn't see the home that he was going to but I researched her details on the internet and satisfied myself that everything she had told me on the 'phone was absolutely true.

I bought my current pony sight unseen from Scotland and she is the best horse I've ever owned. I am not sure if I am a novice or not. I have been riding since I was 11 and have owned 4 horses and shared 2. I am not a very good rider by any means but I have weekly lessons. My pony is in my sig strip below.

The only time I have bought an unsuitable horse (for unsuitable read nutter) was when I went to see the horse and try it twice in various situations - school, hacking etc. I had much better luck buying a horse I'd never even seen until she stepped off the transporter.

Bought this filly as a foal unseen based on pedigree and photo.

http://www.volatis.co.uk/ramona.html

She is developing into a cracker, probably even better than we hoped.

Bought another mare unseen at the same time. She is a hand smaller than she was supposed to be, and not suitable as a broodmare which is why I bought ehr. But she moves far better than we expected and is a sweethaert. But she will be sold as she doesnt fit the bill and had I seen her in the flesh then I wouldn't have bought.

Finally bought another broodmare unseen http://www.volatis.co.uk/orange.html but I had a lot of discussion with her owner, new her grading scores, loved her pedigree and she has just produced us a cracking foal. I have in fact sold the mare, but only because a close friend fell totally in love with her but the mare will stay with us on livery

Was offered this horse, and some cash, in exchange for a totally green, unpapered ID type that we had no use for. Pic was taken in my mums garden.

The first time we set eyes on him is when he came charging down the ramp like a stallion.
crazy.gif

Nutter when he arrived - wouldn't go anywhere on his own, napped for Britain, and had the most amazing rear.
crazy.gif

A few months later, he was hacking out no probs, no hint of a rear in him, though he could still be a tad nappy if you didn't keep your leg on him, and was jumping 4'6" around the paddock for fun.

Sold him, and have had nothing but praise for him from his owner, and he does dressage and SJ with her.

Well we got Saf unseen in January, its taken since then to get some weight back on her and get rid of her rainscald but she is pretty well behaved, B's sis been riding her recently and she's only had a few lessons and Saf has been really good for her!

Taking her to first show at the weekend so will see how she does.

She's good to load, catch, shoe, worm, clip, hack, school, ride in field, not done much jumping yet though.

She was a friend of a friends but we'd not seen her before we got her !
