So long time since I have done this - and I am looking for the elusive school mistress (happy with older horse if sound).

Do wanted ads work? Don’t seem to be many dealers these days - at least not ones who advertise and where do private sellers advertise!! Facebook pages seem to have overtaken website but so difficult to find.

And is my imagination or have prices crept up? It seems to have switched to a sellers market - or is that just the time of the year?

I was searching last year and found the best places were Horsequest and Facebook. Facebook is not easy though but if you join a couple of groups such as eventing-uk you will see a lot of ads go up there. You can also save adverts on FB so that they don't disappear.
Ultimately I found mine on FB. He'd been advertised, someone linked me into his advert which I saved and then promptly forgot about. After trawling back through my saved ads I spotted him and checked he was still for sale and the rest is history.
And yes prices have gone up. I reckon I paid nearly £3k more for him that you would have a couple of years ago but after 4 failed vettings & 17 viewings I was getting desperate !

Where abouts are you? I may know of a mare that fits the bill, she's rising 18 but has previously show jumped to a decent level and has been dragged out hunting a couple of times this season. Unfortunately she needs to go ASAP to pay off a substantial livery debt so will be a total steal!

There are lots of dealers, but they seem to use Facebook, these days. I found them by joining horses for sale pages of various types and then going to the dealer's page from there. In addition I searched Horsemart, Horsequest and had local recommendations. Prices seem to vary a lot, but good cobs are definitely recognised for their worth, now. I saw a couple who were advertised as £4500 + as youngsters without prevenance!
