Hi everyone!
I currently own a gorgeous 15.1hh thoroughbred x mare, who is in excellent health and fitness at the age of 22! :) :D
She is my first ever horse and she has taught me a hell of a lot, she owes me absolutely nothing and I owe her everything!! She is still in a decent work regime working 4 days a week maximum,
I am lucky enough to be buying another horse later this year, and want to look around November-January to make sure I don't jump in too quick or anything (heart over head kinda thing with me!) -- and will be lessening my veteran's workload in the process and just hacking her as thats what she enjoys the most, along with the odd flatwork session and crosspole to keep her thinking!!
but I want a bit of advice,
I don't want a thoroughbred cross again for my 2nd horse and definitely not a full thoroughbred(no offence to anyone, I have nothing against them at all, just would like a different breed)
I was wondering what breeds people would recommend,
and the pros and cons of owning 2 horses, (expense being a major con of course!!)

I would ideally like something 9-14, nothing older, that can take me further in my jumping. My little thoroughbred is a trooper and has taken me up to 1m5 in her younger days but she is quite the whizzy type when jumping, and I'd like something to show me the ropes.
My budget isn't going to be huge, £2000 max. Is my budget realistic for the market at the moment?
I really need some help and advice when buying my 2nd horse, was just wondering what other peoples experiences are when buying their 2nd horse?

Thank you

Totally realistic at present. Good luck in ur search. Time wise doing two takes 1.5 times as long as doing 1 not twice as long. Costs aren't quite double either as u have less waste and can sometimes buy in bulk.

I don't think that you're being realistic budget wise. I think you will struggle to find something that is younger than 14, that has done enough to be a school master type over courses of 1m plus and that hasnt got a great deal of TB blood for less than £2k

I think you're budget is realistic, personally.
I paid £900 inc. everything but saddle for my 14 yo thoroughbred last month. Now I know you want younger and not a thoroughbred, but if I managed her for £900 WITH all her stuff, theres no reason you couldn't pick up something ideal for you for £1500 or even a little less at the moment :D Good luck

I think only you can answer the Q, if it were me I would want to do something different from the first one, eg not a show jumper but maybe a show hunter, now then, I am only interested in winning if I enter such a class, so I would have to seek out an animal which is currently in a field and possibly its owner has no idea that it has such good conformation, presence, and potential.
This requires getting your eye in and visiting good auction sales, but be warned, you should ask the auctioneer to point you in the right direction.
Breed wise I think Warmbloods are not for me, I like a horse with good eventer TB conformation, not weedy, not weak, good bone, good feet and no obvious weakness.
ID cross TB is a good type, I would forget continentals unless for dressage.
You have to buy quality and it must make you feel good when you see it, every day, if you can wait for two or three years you will be well rewarded.
Make sure he has a kind and bold eye.
If you want to go better than 1.5m and pay 2K for a schoolmaster, well good luck. Sorry I realise you meant 1.05m, lol
PS my pony is jumping 1.05 and I can't find a buyer!!!!
