Just found the perfect horse, viewed her, deposited her and was going to arrange vetting next week. Then early morning get a message from the owner saying she can’t sell her as she has had her since 2 ish and can’t part with her.
I am totally gutted. Have viewed other horses but this was perfect, completely understand it being hard for her however we checked with her she was definitely okay with selling her. She refunded the deposit and said sorry but we are totally gutted. Been looking for ages now and when there’s a glimmer of hope you get crushed. Feel like completely giving up. Is it so hard to want a safe, loving horse? We spent the whole day travelling and now feel bad. Any help? Feel like giving up

Sorry you had this disappointment. Horse buying is sometimes very frustrating. You can say "not meant to be" and take a deep breath & move on. I wonder if it would be worth keeping in touch with the seller, though.

She had made the decision to sell for solid reasons which will still be there.

Just to be sure before you walk away, I'd message her to ask if she'd like to visit to see where the horse would be living, tell her you'll keep in touch and wouldn't mind the occasional visit after the sale.

Thank you, this was already in the agreement, she could come visit whenever she wanted and we would definitely keep in touch

That is a total bummer! Im so sorry, she probably had a freak out at selling her and losing her, it could be just a wobble, like has been said I would keep in touch with her as she may change her mind. Ask her if it would help if she came to visit where she would be living. There will be another wee horse there for you, dont be disheartened ❤️

We’ve tried that but either they don’t know the history of the horse or the horse is completely different than described. It is also very hard to find a good dealer.

Ask for recommendations in Tack Room for good dealers not too far from you. They do exist.

Agree with this, they are out there. If you can find one with a good rep and at least a handful of possible options, it would be well worth travelling and even a night in a B&B. Possibly less stressful than repeated ad hoc rushing to get private sellers.

P.S. Really sorry this has happened to you, I'd be gutted too. Stay in touch with the seller if you can but I wouldn't pin my hopes on that one, people are too strange and irrational.

she doesn’t want to part with her, she’s had her since 2 so is understandable but just frustrating as should of fully thought about it beforehand

it may not feel like it but sometimes maybe you are not meant for that horse!
I was viewing for quite a while, almost lost hope after failed checks, one was sold under my nose and not a large budget.
I was gutted after one failed to go through as I really wanted her, and then a few weeks later saw my dream youngster - I always said I wanted a palamino welsh D jumping youngster and she came available the week after I was let down - She was within my price range and passed a vetting took me a week to get her transported and I'm so glad I had to wait.
Keep pushing through!

Whoever is looking for will always find it! Yes, people can be strange and I agree that sometimes they should approach some things more responsibly. Well, I would console myself with the fact that it's just not your horse, the signs of the universe or something.

Trouble with dealers is they rarely have the perfect made horse, as perfect made horses don’t end up with dealers.
Nice youngsters, yes, but would you sell anything that you had invested time and love etc into to a dealer? I think you’d want to know who bought it.

Too many people are looking for the perfect horse. It doesn’t exist!! Buy a nice enough one with no known health issues and make it into your perfect horse. If it works you’ll have a lovely horse. If you don’t like it after a year then sell it.

You will never find the perfect horse, and the earlier that is accepted the more time you save.

Maybe broaden ur requirements a bit like try something that’s a bit taller than u would have originally preferred
I had the exact problem as u when I was looking for a pony ended up trying a hack and falling in love with him or you could also try Looking a bit further away
Anyways the perfect pony is out there waiting for you and you will find it !!!

I had this. I had sold my previous horse as I was very over horsed and was looking. Found what seemed to be the most perfect horse, asked for first viewing, held off looking at others when they went on holiday only for them to come back to me when back that they had decided to keep it. I had a mixture of anger and disappointment. Why put the horse up for sale if it isn't a final decision? Those debates should have been had before advertising the horse.
