Hi, i have a bwp and my mate a kwpn and we need to register the horses into our names ready to affiliate in january...
i've heard we don't have to send the passports all the way back to belgium and holland, does anyone know where we can find out about having us registered as the new owners? Or get it done in england?

thanks xxxxxxxx

You don't have to sed them back if you don't want to as DEFRA now says that changes of ownership for imported horses etc can be done by any studbook PIO that registers that sort of horse. So I should get in touch with AES, BWBS, SHBGB and SSH, see which one is cheapest and then get that one to do it. But do make sure that you send the passports by Registered Post to make sure that they don't go astray as if they do they can be really difficult to replace.

I had my name put in my horse's KWPN passport recently. It was easy and cheap. I think it cost EU15 or so. I sent the passport to Holland by registered post and it came back within the week.

I have always updated my horses ownership details direct with the KWPN too and found it quite straightforward.

Alongwith the passport, your friend should have also received an A4 registration paper showing all the horse's registration details and pedigree. This paper is often folded up and tucked in the pocket in the back of the passport.

You DONT need to send the actual passport to the KWPN - that stays with the horse. You DO need to send the registration paper, plus some colour photos of the horse showing each side and the front (so the KWPN can see the markings) and tell them the name and address of the new owner.

I think current cost to transfer ownership is €21.20. You can either pay over phone by credit card or send them a cheque for the £ equivalent. The KWPN will update the horse's computer record and will print off a new registration paper with the new ownership details on the back and they will send you a sticky label to put in the ownership pages of the passport.

I would give their helpdesk a ring just to confirm - no is 0031 341 255555. NB make sure you send it to the right address as the KWPN moved offices in 2006 so the address in the passport might be old!

I need to do this.

I wrote to BWP and this is the answer they gave me;
"We don’t have a BWP department in the UK.

To change the ownership she has to send the original papers with the address and name of the new owner.
Address : BWP
Waversebaan 99
3050 Oud-Heverlee
Belgium"

I am sending my mare's passport recorded delivery to have details changed -
