Here is Bubbles, the first saluki we rescued after I moved to England 6 years ago. She was a travelers dog, had been bred to a greyhound at 6 months resulting in 10 pups. She was a wreck when we got her, intending to turn her over to saluki rescue, but after she vomited all over the backseat of my OHs Saab on the way home it was love at first site. She gets far more attention from him than I do lol! Still after 30 years breeding and showing and judging I wouldn't trade this unregistered saluki for the world!

Here is our troop of rescues:
4mutts-1.jpg

that's Bubbles in front, the black and tan is my Allycat, the big greyhoundy looking fellow is bently the scottish goofhound (half saluki/half scottish deerhound) and the border collie is Bob (like there aren't enough Bob's in that breed hey?
Bob lives with my stepson who only lives a stones throw from us now and makes frequent visits, lucky for us.
As to recommmending a breeder, I possibly could, but could you consider rescue? I will show you some pictures of the babies that end up in rescue, and we do a fabulous job but there are always more sadly.

Yes, but salukis were here longer than greyhounds were lol. I see greyhounds as naked salukis lol!
Just in case you don't think rescue salukis are for you, have a look at this little tyke rescued at seven weeks from under a traveler's caravan in the dead of winter. We had to pay to get her out of there, but it isn't only older salukis that end up needing homes!

She even has what is known as the "kiss of Allah" on her head. This is so strange, will be there until about six months, then fade for about four and suddenly re-appear. Weird huh? But everything is weird about this breed. Wouldn't have any other myself, but they are definitely not for everyone. If anyone is truly interested in adoption, please contact me at bagpiperblair@yahoo.com and I will put you in touch with Anne our coordinator of saluki placement. All dogs are microchiped and insured for the first month, but are placed out on a contract of adoption to make sure the dog isn't passed from hand to hand.

Here's a better picture of my Ali (who was found rummaging in an ally at the age of around 6 months). She is the love of my life, and I am going to tell you that her looks and me being a dog show judge had nothing whatsoever to do with me picking her out of a group of four that were offered me (well, at least not MUCH)
Now tell me, how much more beautiful would she be if she weren't a rescue? We have placed several in this area who are consistently winning best in show at open shows...lots of free dog food there lol!

Suzi and the Newland Hounds!

Thanks!
I think so too, by the way Bently the Goofhound is MUCH bigger than he looks in this photo.
You and I are fellow sighthounders. Have owned whippets too in the past. Love the little guys. Rescued one that the new owners named "Spud" which in American means potato..and they named her that because she was a couch potato!!!

On a more serious note, here is my Ch. Le Corsaire Etienne Navarre taking group 2 at a big show in the states. He was my first homebred champion and sired a bunch more just like him. That's me in the red suit looking much younger than today lol! By the way, this boy Navarre went on to win a group 1 at the age of 11 at a big show, so he went on being beautiful his whole life!

You're in love you say...trade you for that beautiful bay horse of yours lolol!
AS to working them, well I never did. However Ch. Le Corsaire Etienne Navarre sired Am. Can. Ch Le Corsaire Jean Lafitte and he was bred to a working coursing bitch and produced four pups. One I took as a stud fee pup and she finished her CH in 5 shows. The produced 2 champions out of her only litter of 2. The other three sired by Lafittte, well two were coursing champions called CCs thats live coursing of rabbits) and the other bitch was a CCM which is Coursing Champion of Merit...so my lines could produce actual working dogs.
As to killing, well only the border collie has killed a rabbit. One day out on walk he took off and brought back this poor dead rabbit. It was still warm, so he hadn't just found it dead. Go figure. I have coursing hounds and the bc is the courser.

Oh, let me see your lurchers, please?
I love them! One day may even own one (though I suppose Bently really could be classed as a lurcher as he is half saluki/half scottish deerhound. Itn's "lurcher" a job title and not actually a seperate breed of dog??
Love greyhounds too...
Wish I had enough hands to stroke or I'd have dozens!
