Wow he's amazing! What a talented little horse (well not so talented as far as racing goes :p)

And i'm glad it's not just my ex-racer that's good at standing up on 2 legs!

:D :D :D :D

Thank you! What a transformation! Fab to see, he's such a credit to you.

But OMG those rearing pictures! Well sat!

I do love him :)

Wow what a difference. Such a talented TB. I'm amazed at how quickly you've got him up to adv medium! All credit to ya! :)

What a transformation- you have done such a great job- I wish I had taken early pics of Av although we are no near the likes of u and CS!!

Just out of interest... I take it that ur background is mainly dressage? If so what made you pick up an ex racer as they are not always an obviouls choice :p, and would you have another?:)

im actually from a SJ background (did ponies and then some young riders stuff and then seniors) and moved to dressage in 2004 ( i think!)

we bought a super cheap ex racer as a project, and she turned out to be very talented at dressage but incredibly quirky (like lay down, flip over, wrap herself round a fence quirky).
she retired at adv medium level, as it was clear she wanted no more to do with it and she wasnt a safe hack/low level horse AT ALL!!!

when i went looking for CS i did specifically want another TB, but had a much more detailed spec and basically looked for one that moved, and was put together ,like a modern (LW) warmblood.

he ticked all the boxes, uphill, used himself well, naturally supple over the back, sharp but not stupid, good feet and legs, brown, gelding and was bang on budget.so home he came.

Lovely horse and well done for getting him through the levels. Presume he came out of racing in Oct 2008 and then you got him Jan 2009?

He is amazing, and you must feel fit to burst with pride at how he's turned out! In the first advert photo he looks so well and not very typically TB-out-of-racing at all. You should do a spiel for RoR for their 'Success Stories" page because he most definitely is and he also shows that not all TBs who are 'chucked out' are left to go all skinny and poor looking :) I bet if you didn't tell people he was a TB ex-racer they would never ever guess!!

I agree with Lolo, you should do an ROR success story. People are really realising how good these horses are but it seems to be mainly showing and eventing people who like them. There's still so much snobbery in the dressage world about them I think CS is a great example of what they can achieve with the right rider and also how quickly!!
I agree he doesn't look very TB out of racing in the first pic but he does still look so weak to what he is now! He looks all baby in your first ridden pic and now he looks amazing.
Of course you have had the right material to work with but if he hadn't found you lord knows what would have happened to him, you have done an incredible job with him. You are both a very awesome team together.

He is simply beautiful!!

What an amazing journey you have been on with him.
It's fabulous to see the pictures.
I remember you saying he cost £1000, as I know nothing about dressage horse values, how much is he worth now? (I know you would never sell him, I'm just intrigued :) )
Have you carried on doing a little bit of jumping with him? How is he doing with that?

yes sorry out racing oct 2008!

i honestly have no idea of market value, its fairly normal that dressage horses dont hack too reliably or jump, but that would go against him in the amateur market. even taking that in to account he must be knocking on for £10k? 6yo schooling PSG, established changes, not spooky, excellent record, easy ladies ride(in as much as light in the hand, light off leg, easy to move around etc)????? never sick or sorry etc.he IS sharp at shows, but no sharper than many i dont think. so really ,no clue!

have sort of abandoned jumping as he seems to have jacked it in a bit, and he doesnt owe me anything jumping so have decided to just leave him for now and let him do what he really enjoys.

Love the story of the 1st quirky horse!!- bless em and their little ways!. I think thats also the thing that lots of people forget about racers is that they really do come in all shapes and sizes- Av is round and miniture, like a little showpony really. It does annoy me when people pigeon hole racers as they are all so different.

Well done again though- I think that it makes success even sweeter when you can look back at how far you have come. Have you found any pictures or videos of him racing?

i know, and i know its an awful habit, but theres not much that can be done, and he is SO genuine in the ring and such a trier work wise, its almost easy to put up with (and they are a whole lot less frequent these days, so he's getting there!)

no pics of him racing sadly, as his trainer said "only the good ones get pics taken because no one is interested in the back of the field" lol!!! im glad he was crap, otherwise he wouldnt be mine now!
