Afternoon folks,

Hope this is in the right place!

My name's James, I'm a self employed 'Wildlife Manager' (read as 'rabbit and mole catcher'!) from Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. I was introduced to hunting by the boss of a small shoot I used to run on the Cotswolds. Unfortunately he passed away in June (D.S. B-B for anyone who knew him), so I've come here in the hope of continuing the learning curve!

Thanks for the welcomes!

I have followed hounds (the Pennine and Blencathra when I was at Uni Ooop North) and the Cotswold nearer home. Always on foot or in the 4x4 though, not had the opportunity (or the bottle! :o) to ride to hounds. Really do love it when I get the chance and it's something I can see myself more getting into, time and funds permitting.

Good morning James and welcome.

I think you might find Willie Poole's very recent Blog on his website, concerning the practice of Mole Catching in France, highly entertaining. Indeed anything gleaned from the great bard, is part of one's learning curve.

Hehe, found it, very good! Some of the trickiest moles I've had have been where the householder has had a go themselves. Glad none of my clients (thus far!) have resorted to land mines though!

The best one was the middle house of three terraced cottages, the lady of the house had bought one of those sonic scarer thingies. Sure enough the moles were scared off, to both the houses next door! Having wrecked those lawns and got used to the scarer, they returned to the middle one and put up a hill right under said scarer, which fell over!

I caught 3 moles in two days from the middle garden and the problem was solved, but I wasn't smug. Much. :D

I confess I dont often post in 'Hunting' but am a keen follower.....I was drawn by your username- have you Salukis??? I do, and it's always nice to find a fellow fan...

Llanali - not full salukis unfortunately, all my dogs have to earn their living and I don't have the land or work for salukis. I do have a little bitch who I think is saluki/whippet cross, she's certainly got the attitude!!

They're definitely on my list of breeds to have though!

Ah I see. We're fortunate to have the land to have terriers and labradors to earn their living, and Salukis to add a bit of class! LOL That said, i'm currently looking at one of mine laid upside down in front of the Aga, plastered in mud from the downpour earlier today...

Could easily be- if you had a shot of her standing closer, I may be able to help. She lacks the teel tale Saluki ears though- flopped rather than pricked, I mean, not feathered.
